Maybe it was a risk she was willing, even eager to take. Maybe somewhere underneath it all, she's a bit suicidal. Demona's computer program showing how the virus would wipe out humanity.

Operation Clean Slate - Demona’s term for the scheme that she devised to destroy humanity.

History

To carry out this scheme, she first obtained the Medici Tablet in Florence in 1495, and then the Praying Gargoyle in Paris in 1980. Then she employed Sevarius to develop the CV-1000 Carrier Virus, and stole a canister of DI-7 detergent from Xanatos Enterprises. She took all of these to St. Damien’s Cathedral on the night of the Hunter’s Moon in 1996, where she used the Fulfillment Spell engraved on the Medici Tablet to magically combine the CV-1000 Carrier Virus with the DI-7 detergent to produce a powerful plague that would wipe out all humanity if released. She would activate the Praying Gargoyle to keep her own race safe from the effects of the plague, and then release the virus. Fortunately, she was foiled at the last moment by Goliath, who destroyed the Praying Gargoyle after Demona told him it was the only thing protecting the Gargoyles from the virus, thus ensuring that if Demona released the plague, the gargoyles would perish as a result as well as the humans. The gargoyles captured the vial with the plague inside it, and afterwards destroyed it.

Apocrypha

Greg Weisman has revealed that had Demona released the plague it would have spread to New Olympus and killed most of the inhabitants there. It would not have spread to Avalon. A commonly asked question is what would've happened to Macbeth and Demona due to their magical connection and the fact that Demona turns to a human during the day. Greg Weisman has answered that question saying, 'Keep in mind that magic isn't an exact science. The Weird Sisters told Macbeth and Demona that "When one lives both live." Demona used the magic Praying Gargoyle statue to insure she would survive the fullfillment spell. So would Macbeth have survived? Probably. She knows about the mortality link. She would not want his death at her hands if that resulted in her own. Towards Macbeth , her impulse should not be murderous by necessity. And mindset has a real effect on magic results. However, Demona isn't the most stable and rational of characters. She certainly has murderous feelings toward Macbeth . And if their linking spell "perceived" the death of all humanity as a successful attempt to kill Macbeth , then it might very well have killed her as well. Did she consider this? Maybe.

Maybe it was a risk she was willing, even eager to take. Maybe somewhere underneath it all, she's a bit suicidal. Could she die with the idea of leaving behind a human-free "paradise" where her daughter could live in safety? Remember, Moses led the Israelites to the Promised Land, but he was not allowed to enter it himself. Maybe that's how Demona felt about it.

Then again, maybe not. Very provocative question.'
