Robyn Canmore
Robyn Correy
Robyn (age 14), with her siblings

Robyn Canmore was a Hunter. She is the middle child of the Canmore trio, sister of Jason and Jon Canmore. She discontinued being a Hunter in 1996, and now leads the Redemption Squad under the codename: Hunter. She also briefly used the alias Robyn Correy.

History

Robyn was born on June 19th, 1966. In 1980, when she was 14, she accompanied her brothers and her father, Charles Canmore, to Paris, where, on the night of September 28th, she saw her father's fatal battle with Demona at Notre Dame Cathedral. She pursued The Demon into the Catacombs with her brothers and was assaulted by the gargoyle. Fortunately, Jason saved her and Demona fled. Afterwards, she and her brothers became Hunters, vowing to hunt down and destroy Demona and any other surviving gargoyles. ("Hunter's Moon Part Three", "Estranged")

The numerous gargoyle sightings in Manhattan brought the Canmores to New York in 1996. The timing and location of Nightstone Unlimited's incorporation (not to mention its name) caught their attention, and there Robyn applied for a position as Dominique Destine's personal assistant, under the alias of Robyn Correy. [1] She soon discovered Dominique's double identity as Demona, and learned about her genocide scheme, "Operation Clean Slate".

Robyn also took part in the struggle between the Hunters and Goliath's Clan, personally destroying the clock tower herself. However, after the battle at the dam where Jason Canmore was seemingly killed, she began to have doubts about their war upon all gargoyles, particularly after seeing what it was doing to Jon's character. She went with him to Saint Damien's Cathedral for their final battle with the clan, but stopped the fighting when Jason and Elisa arrived, as Jon did not. Her original feelings about gargoyles were further shaken when she saw Goliath destroy the Praying Gargoyle, willingly risking his life and those of his entire race to save humanity from destruction. ("Hunter's Moon Part One", "Hunter's Moon Part Two") Afterwards, Robyn Canmore was taken into temporary police custody for destroying the clock tower. [2][3]

However, she was soon released through the agency of the Director, who had decided to use her as his recruiter for the Redemption Squad, and its leader, under the codename Hunter. She first traveled to Australia and after witnessing Dingo and Matrix defeat the Tazmanian Tiger in Sydney, followed them back to Uluru where she convinced them to join the Redemption Squad. The three then left for Tokyo to hunt for a tengu. ("Strangers") Upon arriving, they tracked down and captured Yama. Hunter offered him membership in the Redemption Squad, allowing him a chance to regain his honor, but threatened his clan if he refused to join. ("The Lost") From there, she took the group to their headquarters in Paris where they began rigorous training. Robyn revisited her past at Notre Dame Cathedral while there.

On New Year's Eve, 1996, Hunter and her squad arrived in Manhattan on a mission to track down Dr. Sevarius. While there, she visited Jason at Rikers Island and together they spotted John Castaway in a television commercial for the Quarrymen. Recognizing him as Jon, Hunter approached him at the Quarryman Brownstone in an attempt to reason with him, only to be dismissed. Afterwards, while searching for Dingo and Matrix in the sewers below the city, she was attacked by Fang. ("Estranged") Though Yama managed to save her, they were both taken captive and brought to Sevarius' lab. There the scientist intended to inject Hunter with a mutagenic formula made using Angela's DNA, turning her into a human-gargoyle mutate. She escaped this fate thanks to Dingo and Matrix, and then led the Redemption Squad to Times Square, where they successfully stopped Fang from releasing the CV-1997 Carrier Virus upon the thousands of people gathered there. Though their actions had saved many people from being mutated, Hunter was upset to learn that Tasha, one of Sevarius' early test subjects, had committed suicide, and that the doctor had escaped. Hunter protested when the Director subsequently assigned Fang to the Squad, but was overruled. ("Louse")

A few days later, Hunter led the group to Eastcheap Isle where they were attacked by massive robots. After defeating the robots, they entered a cave where they discovered Falstaff and his gang of thieves. Falstaff, with help from her great-aunt, Fiona Canmore attempted to recruit Hunter and the Squad into the Illuminati. Dingo opined that Falstaff could have been telling the truth (despite being an unrepentant liar). However, when Yama and Fang revealed that the Illuminati could not be trusted (having inducted the villainous Thailog as a member), Hunter and the rest of the Squad agreed that they would continue with their original mission. She and the Redemption Squad clashed with Falstaff's gang. Falstaff and his man Pistol submerged Eastcheap (revealed to be a ship and not an island). The Redemption Squad were able to avoid drowning thanks to the Matrix. As they floated away, Dingo and Hunter were seen smiling at each other. ("Strangled," "Losers")

Future

Hunter and Dingo

Robyn, as Hunter, will continue to lead the Squad on many dangerous missions. She will eventually develop a stormy relationship with Dingo in the course of this new career, and they will presumably eventually be married. [4] By 2198, their family, the Monmouths, will still be extant and be at odds with the Castaways, descended from John Castaway. [5][6]

Characteristics

Among her brothers, and among the Redemption Squad, Hunter was always the coldest and most methodical in contrast to Jason's passion, and Jon's weakness. She blew up the clock tower without showing any signs one way or the other that she cared about the morality or heinousness of the act. She is also highly intelligent, and an excellent tactician. She figured out Dominique Destine was really Demona based only on the name of the company, where and when it was founded, and the fact that Ms. Destine was never seen at night. Her cold and methodical attitude, combined with her intelligence made her the natural leader for the Redemption Squad.

Hunter was raised since birth to despise and hunt the gargoyles, but she did show reluctance at a young age until her father was murdered by the Demon. But, years later, she would eventually come around when Jason did, and chose to surrender to the police rather than escape with Jon to continue the hunt. While she no longer hates gargoyles with a passion, and even works well with Yama, that old bigotry is still present, as displayed when Sevarius threatened to mutate her with gargoyle DNA.
