Hey Supermorff. See, when I read the Ask Greg quote in question it absolutly seems like he is refering to Hobgoblins being the sophisticated two-parter. For those of you who don't know what we are talking about, here is the exact quote:

1. I know you probably want to be elusive about the "Hobgoblin of Little
Minds" episode. But was it the "very strange little two-parter" that you
once said was "too risky" to be made? If so, in what respect was it risky?
1. No. That two-parter wasn't risky per se, but it was highly
sophisticated even by GARGOYLES standards. I think we could have done it,
but the higher ups rejected it. It was the ONLY plotline they did reject.
Given how cooperative they were otherwise, it was hard to argue the point.

So, either Weird Macbeth was the sophisticated episode rejected by the higher ups or Hobgoblin was the sophisticated episode rejected by higher ups. I think he is talking about Hobgoblin, and the episode he has called "too risky" is the Weird Macbeth one. I guess it depends if by the second word he wrote, "That", means Hobgoblin or Weird Macbeth... I suppose I can see it either way.

Uh, desperately trying to parse these sentences... Right.
  • Q: Does "Hobgoblin" = "2-parter" "that is too risky"?
  • A: No. "Hobgoblin" is not the "2-parter".
  • Comment: "2-parter" wasn't risky, but "it" (2-parter) was sophisticated. We could have done "it" (2-parter), but "it" (2-parter) was rejected.
Also, the Ask Greg FAQ identifies The Weird Macbeth as "the only premise rejected because the higher-ups though it was too strange", so I'm pretty confident that q72 was about Weird Macbeth and not Hobgoblin.
Also, when I was looking through the archive about this yesterday I found this response, in which Greg says that Hobgoblin was "another notion that came to me later." I'm not sure if this means "later than the 2-parter", or "later than production of the series", but either way I think it indicates that Hobgoblin wasn't specifically rejected. -- Supermorff 03:38, 18 August 2010 (CDT)
