Derek Maza worked as a pilot for the NYPD, and was very skilled at his job. Skilled enough to make an emergency landing after having the rear rotor blown off by a bazooka. Xanatos was impressed by Derek's skills as a pilot and lured him into his service. ("The Edge", "Her Brother's Keeper")
