Donnchad (also known as Duncan II) was surrendered to William the Conqueror as a hostage after the Treaty of Abernathy in 1072, and lived at the English court until William's death in 1087.  (He was knighted by William's oldest son, Robert Curthose.)  He and his uncle Donalbain fought over the Scottish throne upon Malcolm Canmore's death; Duncan was slain in battle on November 12, 1094, fighting Donalbain's supporters.
