Japan
Japan is an island nation in East Asia.
History
Japan has been inhabited by humans and gargoyles since ancient times. The native gargoyles are responsible for the local legends of the tengu.
Japan was one of the major countries involved in World War II, though peace has come to the country in modern times.
The capital of Japan is the huge metropolis of Tokyo. In contrast, Ishimura is a small, rural village in Japan.
The ship Otoshiana Maru may have been from there.
Ishimura served as a stop for the Avalon World Tour in 1996 and Vinnie Grigori took a security job offered by Taro in Japan later that year. It will also serve as a location visited by Brooklyn during his adventures as the TimeDancer.
Japan is home to one gargoyle clan, the Ishimura Clan.
Real World History
Japan, or as it is locally known, Nihon or Nippon, officially Nihon-koku or Nippon-koku, is located in the Pacific Ocean. It lies to the east of China, Korea, and Russia, stretching from the Sea of Okhotsk in the north to the East China Sea in the south. The kanji characters that make up Japan's name mean "sun-origin," which is why Japan is sometimes identified as the "Land of the Rising Sun."
