The ‘‘‘Negative Zone Portal‘‘‘ is, as the name implies, a portal to the Negative Zone.

History

At somepoint, Reed Richards installed the Negative Zone portal in the Baxter Building ("Clan and Family...")

The Negative Zone Portal is a large rectangular machine that allows access the the extradimensional Negative Zone. Safe use of the portal requires protocols designed to prevent anti-matter from leaking into Earth’s dimension.

Characteristics

The Negative Zone Portal first appeared in ‘‘Fantastic Four‘‘ Vol. 1 #51. It was created by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee.

Reed Richards originally created the Negative Zone Portal in response to various extraterrestrial threats such as the shapeshifting Skrulls or the planet devouring Galactus. Since these threats had demonstrated the ability to travel faster than light, Richards was convinced that humanity likewise needed a method of circumventing the ‚‘light barrier‘ in order to defend itself. Richards‘ experiments eventually resulted in the creation of a portal to what he originally called “sub-space“. It wasn’t until later storylines that the realm discovered was offically christened the Negative Zone, and revealed to be inhabited by several exotic (and often hostile) lifeforms
