Titanium Man

Titanium Man is a suit of robotic exo-armor piloted by Russian supervillain Kondrati Topolov.

History

As part of Yuri and Kondrati Topolov's bargain with Annihilus, Kondrati piloted his Titanium Man armor into the Negative Zone in order to trade the android Dragon Man to the extra-dimensional warlord for the raw ores necessary to synthesize adamantium. Kondrati had planned to use the adamantium to make his armor indestructible but was eventually thwarted by the combined efforts of the Manhattan Clan and the Fantastic Four. In the end, the Titanium Man armor was lost in the Negative Zone along with Kondrati himself. ("Clan and Family...")

Production Background

The original Titanium Man first appeared in Tales of Suspense Vol. 1 #69. He was created by Stan Lee and Don Heck.

In Marvel continuity, the Titanium Man armor and alias has been used by several different characters usually affiliated with the Soviet Union or its successor states. The original Titanium Man was Boris Bullski, a Soviet intelligence agent who designed his armor to defeat Iron Man, thus demonstrating the USSR's supremacy over the USA. Kondrati Topolov would later appropriate both Bullski's armor and code-name for his own purposes. At least six other characters would claim the mantle of Titanium Man at various points in Marvel's publication history.
