Emma of Normandy was the Queen of England, Princess Elena's sister, and Princess Katharine's aunt. She was also the mother of Edward the Confessor through her first husband, Aethelred the Unready. [1] In 1017, Emma married England's reigning monarch, King Canute of Denmark. [2] Together they had a son, Hardicanute. [3]

In 1042, she was locked up in a nunnery by Edward the Confessor once he assumed the throne. [4]
