Italy is a country in Southern Europe. It was the heart of the Roman Empire and both Rome and Florence are located in the country. Many of William Shakespeare's plays take place in Italy, including Romeo and Juliet (with settings in Verona and Mantua), and Othello (which begins in Venice). Even when not set in Italy, many of his plays often featured Italian characters, such as Prospero in The Tempest, who was once the Duke of Milan.
