A Penny is a common coin found in United States currency.

History

Petros Xanatos gifted his son, David, with an simple American penny in 1995 after they and Fox, Goliath, and Demona returned from time-traveling to Castle Wyvern in 975. After witnessing his son utilize the Phoenix Gate and his association with the Illuminati to secure his future fortune from the handful of coins that Prince Malcolm gave him, Petros concluded that money was all his son cared about. Real World Background

Officially known as a "Cent" by the United States Mint, it has been the lowest face-value coin since the United States discontinued the half-cent in 1857. The first US penny was minted in 1787, and has largely been comprised of copper. United States President Abraham Lincoln has been on the obverse of the US penny since 1909, to commemorate the centennial anniversary of the 16th President's birth. In 1959, to celebrate Lincoln's 150th, the Lincoln Memorial was added to the reverse of the coin. Over time, the value of the copper in the penny began to be worth more than the coin it comprised and, in 1982, zinc became the main metal in the coin's composition, while still retaining an exterior copper plating. 2009 marked Lincoln's bicentennial, and the coin commemorated the occasion with four distinct reverses highlighting Lincoln's life and career. In 2025, an executive order was issued to end production of the penny, but the coin will continue to be made into 2026 at the least, since discontinuing a coin remains a decision only Congress can make.
