Real World Background

According to Christian tradition, Castorius was one of four sculptors who were executed by the Roman Emperor Diocletian for refusing to sculpt a statue of the god Asclepius. The Emperor commanded all four sculptors to be sealed in lead coffins and thrown into the River Sava sometime around 287 AD.

The Feast Day of these "Four Crowned Martyrs" is November 8th.
