Nichelle Nichols is an African American actor most famous for playing Lt. Uhura on the original Star Trek.
Her role in that series was considered so important a breakthrough on American television, that Martin Luther King himself personally persuaded her to stay on the series at a time when she considered leaving the role.
She attended the 2003 Gathering of the Gargoyles.
