The Venus de Milo is one of the most famous marble sculptures in the world.

History

As part of Sevarius's scheme to steal a sleeping Thailog from David Xanatos, the leader of Sevarius's Mercenaries bragged that he and his team could steal the Venus de Milo from the Louvre. ("Double Jeopardy")

Real World History

It is believed that the sculpture, in its original condition, depicted Aphrodite holding the Apple of Discord, the infamous fruit that sparked a dispute between Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite that ultimately served as the mythic precursor to the Trojan War.

Believed to have been made by Alexandros of Antioch in the 2nd Century BC, the name (also known as Aphrodite of Melos) is derived from the sculpture's discovery and excavation on the Greek island of Milos in 1820. During World War II, the sculpture was temporarily moved from the Louvre in Paris to Château de Valençay in central France.
