Canute of Denmark was King of England from 1016 to 1035 (and thus on English throne in the later half of Maol Chalvim II's reign in Scotland).
After Aethelred the Unready died in 1016, England was split between his son Edmund Ironside and Canute. [1] After Edmund's death later that year, Canute was crowned King. [2] The following year, he divorced his wife, Elfgiva and married Aethelred the Unready's widow, Queen Emma of Normandy. [3]
Canute reigned until his death in 1035, when he was then succeeded by Harold Harefoot, his son from his first wife. [4]
