Thanks

Hey, I would like to thank you for your help in improving the GargWiki, and making things more organized. You've catched little errors that even I've missed. Thanks. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Greg Bishansky (talk).

You're very welcome. Keep up the good work. -- Supermorff 12:02, 3 February 2007 (CST)

Comic

The comic book is included in the episode category as well, because that's how Greg Weisman wants it. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Greg Bishansky (talk).

Well I won't dispute that, but the way things currently stand (category-wise) doesn't seem right to me. There's no sensible reason for having a category, such as "Category:Comic Book", if all of the pages are in another category elsewhere. I'd make it a subcategory, except that I think it would make more sense to rename it first, for example to "Category:SLG issues".
As a compromise if it was renamed, we could make a new category, e.g. "Category:Gargoyles episodes" or "Category:TV episodes", solely for the original 65, also a subcat of "Category:Episodes". We could empty out the parent cat entirely, except for the list of canon episodes and the subcats.
Or, we could do it by season. "Category:Season 1 episodes", "Category:Season 2 episodes", "Category:The Goliath Chronicles episodes", "Category:SLG episodes", etc. At the moment I'm leaning towards the latter. Do you have a preference? -- Supermorff 17:05, 4 February 2007 (CST)

Just leave it as is. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Greg Bishansky (talk).

That's not really convincing, considering I've already expressed dissatisfaction with the status quo. If you really believe that the current system is the best of all options, then I'll gladly hear you out, but right now I can't see the merits of it over other possibilities (save that it would be easier to leave things alone, which is no sort of reason).
Take the by-season idea. This would make the episodes easier to search for using the categories. It would keep the episodic comic issues on equal footing with the older televised episodes. It would also allow paragraphs at the head of each season to sum up the important occurences and themes ("expansion" for season 2 comes immediately to mind), as well as general background information.
If there's something you dislike about this suggestion, then we can keep working to find a suitable compromise. -- Supermorff 12:40, 5 February 2007 (CST)

Well, Greg wants it that way, and I think it works. Episode Guide is a list of canon stories anyway. -- Greg Bishansky

I don't really know how to respond to that. I know it works, and has done so just fine since 11th January when the category was created, but I just don't think that it's perfect. I don't think my idea is perfect either, but I hope that it's a bit of an improvement.
As for the statement that Greg wants it that way, well, I can't say to that. I don't know him, and I have never met him. I respect him for everything he's done on the show and in the fandom, but not even Greg should have the last word on how things are organised on this site (although content is a different matter). Nobody should. That's the whole point of a Wiki: there is no last word to be had.
That said, if Mr Weisman, or you, or anybody else believes that the current system is the best of all possible systems, and that there is nothing I could contribute to improve the situation, then I'll stop now and happily use what we've got. If not, then I'll keep talking.
The one thing I most want to convey is this: categories are a different breed than lists or articles, and they should be treated differently. Or, at least, that's what I believe. -- Supermorff 11:39, 6 February 2007 (CST)

Why can't an episode be in multiple categories? Say, Episodes, Season 1 stories, Television stories; Episodes, SLG stories, Comic stories. Just a thought. Jeb 17:24, 6 February 2007 (CST)

Yeah, could work. To be honest I've lost track of what this discussion is about. I'm now supporting a bigger change than the one I initially made that got reverted... In fact, I'm not even supporting that original change any more. I'm now wholly convinced that issues of the comic book do belong in the episodes category (although we've got a category for them already that could serve as a suitable subcategory). Maybe I'm blowing this out of proportion. Is there actually any real objection to making a couple of new categories (subcats of "Episodes") to add some structure, or is the point of contention somewhere else?
Hang on, I've had a new idea. Bear with me. -- Supermorff 07:32, 7 February 2007 (CST)

Okay, so the new idea was the creation of the article Episode Guide, separate from the "category: Episodes". I think it might be a better place for the episode lists (and maybe, if expanded, some very short descriptions), so we can leave the categories as that: categories. Baby steps. -- Supermorff 11:39, 8 February 2007 (CST)
