Menteth was a retainer to King Culen.
In 971, at Culen's orders, Menteth signalled to Lord Valois to attack the gargoyles of the Wyvern Clan. He then informed King Culen of their losses.
Real World Background
Menteth is named after a thane in William Shakespeare's Macbeth (whose name is also spelled "Menteith" in some editions).
