It was initiated by the reveal of gargoyles to the human world the previous year and the capture of a live gargoyle, Goliath, by the Gargoyles Taskforce. The New York City Criminal Court conducted the hearing to determine if gargoyles were to be considered legally sentient and should possess human rights.
