Elisa Maza
Elisa Nichelle Maza was the Manhattan Clan's closest human friend before becoming a member of the clan herself – and to Goliath, more than a friend. She is a detective in the New York Police Department. She has used the alias Salli for undercover work.
"And normalcy's so over-rated." - Elisa Maza, ("The Rock")
History
Early Life
Elisa was born in 1968, the eldest child of Peter and Diane Maza. [1][2] Growing up, she loved reading Nancy Drew Mystery Stories. [3] She probably had a background in Christianity from her mother, but probably styled her beliefs after her Agnostic father. Still, all the stories her mother told about African myths and legends helped her maintain an open mind. [4] She once visited Nigeria with her family due to her mother's ancestry. ("Mark of the Panther")After majoring in Psychology at Columbia, Elisa followed family tradition by entering the NYPD, and by 1994, had already become a Detective Second Class in the 23rd Precinct under Captain Maria Chavez. [5] Her first case as a detective involved investigating the missing landlord of 601 Amsterdam Avenue but when no breaks came, her older and more cynical partner reminded her that if she prioritized every case that came her way with an equal level of intensity, it would only be a matter of time before the job ate her alive. He failed to convince her of that. ("Stone Cold Case")
She moved into a loft in SoHo and was joined by her cat Cagney. Her apartment has a balcony and a large window providing easy access for the gargoyles when they visit. She drives a classic red car. She's a casual fan of baseball (in particular, the Mets) as well as basketball and football. [6][7] Elisa likes hot dogs and is also a skilled cook. ("Metamorphosis", "Heritage", "The Cage")
Life Gets Crazy
On October 4th, 1994, mysterious explosions started at the top of the recently constructed Eyrie Building and debris fell to the street below, causing damage to the roads, automobiles, and nearby buildings. Police quickly arrived on the scene, including Elisa Maza. There she met, for the first time, Officer Morgan (who had no clue what was going on at the top of the building. Elisa quickly took part in the crowd control, urging civilians to get back to avoid being injured or killed by even more fallen debris. The sound of automatic weapons at the top of the skyscraper made her suspicious, even more so when she noticed what appeared to be claw marks in the debris causing her to wonder what could be strong enough to leave claw marks in solid stone. Once the explosions stopped and the debris stopped falling, Officer Morgan asked Elisa what she thought had happened. Elisa wasn't sure, but she was determined to find out. ("Awakening: Part One", "Awakening: Part Two", "New Rules")
Shortly after midnight on October 5th, Elisa entered the lobby of the Eyrie Building and was greeted by Owen Burnett who attempted to assure her that one of the castle's newly installed generators had exploded and that they were willing to pay for any damages; but Elisa wasn't having it. She had heard automatic weapons and gave Owen an ultimatum, let her up to take a look around or she would return with a warrant and more police officers. Owen brought her up to the castle and she was immediately impressed with the Great Hall and met, for the first time, David Xanatos. Xanatos assured her that Owen's story about an exploding generator was meant for the press before telling Elisa that his men just repelled an invasion by a rival corporation. Elisa continued to ask questions as Xanatos guided her out to the courtyard. He departed, confident that she was satisfied and offered to have Owen show her out. Before returning to the elevator, Elisa thought she saw a stone gargoyle moving. Once Owen had left, Elisa exited the elevator to continue conducting her own search, wandering the halls of the castle. As she continued, her scent was picked up by a Gargoyle Beast. She made her way out onto the battlements when she heard something following her. She drew her gun and demanded that whoever it was come out slowly and gasped at the sight of the beast. Before she could pull the trigger, the gargoyle, Goliath grabbed the gun from her hand and crushed it. Beginning to panic at the sight of the thing before her, she lost her footing, slipped and fell from the skyscraper. Goliath dove down after her, catching her in his arms. Upon setting her down on a nearby ledge, she was shocked that Goliath could speak and began engaging him in conversation. Goliath placed her on his back as he climbed back up the building to the castle. Upon their return, Goliath began to ask her a few questions and she in turn answered his. He soon introduced her to the other gargoyles and they made an appointment to meet again the following night so she could help him get to know the city.
The following evening, Elisa rendezvoused with Goliath on a nearby rooftop. The gargoyle had been hiding in the shadows to make sure that she was alone, and was also followed by Mentor who wanted to be sure that Goliath wasn't walking into an ambush. After Elisa pointed out their paranoia, she invited the older gargoyle on the tour and asked what she should call him. While Mentor continued his unease at the human notion of names, even asking if the river needed a name; when Elisa pointed out the river was called the Hudson, the older gargoyle relented and agreed to be called Hudson as well before declining to participate in the tour. Goliath asked Elisa to show him the dangers that could potentially threaten his kind. Elisa gave him tour of the city, soaring over the streets, through the skyline, and coming to a landing atop the Empire State Building where Goliath couldn't help but express his amazement at the wonders of this world before noticing the lack of city walls and asking Elisa how they defend the city from invaders. Elisa replied that their biggest worries weren't from outside, they were from inside. The two continued their tour, including rescuing Brendan Quarters and Margot Yale from a gang of Street Thugs, which impressed Elisa who expressed that Goliath might be the best thing to happen to the city in a long time.
Their tour continued into Central Park where Goliath grumbled that the new world was just as savage as the one he remembered, but Elisa began to speak of the beauty of the city and the modern world – just in time to be ambushed by the commandos who hit him with a tranquilizer dart and threatened to hunt down the rest of his kind. Unable to keep up his strength, Goliath and Elisa escaped where she discovered a radio transmitter with a strange manufacturer's logo on Goliath's back. The two continued on until sunrise where Goliath turned to stone in front of Elisa for the first time. While she was initially shocked, the sight of the commandos approaching put her into action as she led them away, and despite their attempts to kill her, she led them on a chase through Central Park, picking off the commandos one-by-one through guile and ingenuity, before she finally got the drop on their leader and defeated him in hand-to-hand combat. Elisa then sat at Goliath's side throughout the rest of the day and remained there when he awoke rejuvenated. He expressed surprise and gratitude that she had done this (the old bargain of protecting the humans by night while the humans watched over them during the day) and, for the first time, acknowledged her as a friend and ally and was even eager to meet up with her again later that night. ("Awakening Part Three", "Awakening Part Four")
But Elisa kept busy that day and traced the emblem on the radio transmitter to the Scarab Corporation, the robotics firm that was owned by Xanatos Enterprises. After sunset, the watched Fortress-1 crash into the East River and was shocked to see Goliath flying away from the wreck. Keeping their appointment, she approached him and asked what was going on, Goliath innocently told her that the disks were stolen from Xanatos and they simply returned them. Elisa showed Goliath the emblem and explained to him that Xanatos was responsible for the attack in Central Park, that the disks they stole were the property of Cyberbiotics and that Xanatos had been using them. While Elisa understood that Goliath had no real reason to trust human he needed to trust somebody in this world, and realizing they'd be better off with her than Xanatos, Goliath agreed. Elisa made her way back to the Eyrie Building and arrived just in time to save Goliath's life from his former mate, Demona, who had a bazooka pointed at his chest. She pounced on Demona, causing the shot to go off and damage a tower. The collapsing tower fell onto the battlements causing the ground to collapse beneath them and both Demona and Elisa began to fall. Goliath dove down and caught Elisa, but Demona had vanished before he could dive back down for her. Livid that he had been used, Goliath threatened to drop Xanatos from the tower to his death, but Elisa plead with him not to – telling him that he'd be the same as Demona if he did. Realizing that's not what he wanted, Goliath released Xanatos who was subsequently arrested by Elisa. Goliath was pleased that he had at least one human friend in this new world, and Elisa hoped that some day he'd have more before inviting him to a Giants game... much to his confusion. ("Awakening: Part Five")
The Only Human They Confided In
In part because both she and Xanatos wanted to conceal the gargoyles' existence, Xanatos and the D.A.'s office agreed to a plea bargain and he was convicted of receiving stolen property and sentenced to a short prison sentence. [8] After being invited back to the castle, Goliath was delighted to see her upon awakening and warmly welcomed her to his home, especially with Xanatos defeated. Elisa then attempted to educate Goliath that Xanatos still owned the castle, that he had received a short prison sentence, and that it wouldn't be safe for him and his clan to continue to live in the castle. But despite her attempts, Goliath was still thinking in a medieval sense of ownership and refused to relocate. ("The Thrill of the Hunt")
Elisa continued spending the next few weeks trying to convince Goliath to relocate the gargoyles out of the castle, even taking the time to look and find potential places before realizing that the Clock Tower above her precinct would be perfect for them. When Demona cast the Enslavement Spell on Goliath, Elisa quickly deduced that they should use the spell to cancel itself out by ordering Goliath to act for the rest of his life exactly as he would if he was not under a spell. Not too long afterwards, Elisa again tried to convince Goliath to abandon the castle, when they were attacked by a Steel Clan robot. Goliath destroyed the robot, but unknown to them both, Owen used the opportunity to acquire some of Goliath's genetic material when he arrived with a First Aid kit to tend to the gargoyle's wound. ("Temptation", "Double Jeopardy")
When Tony Dracon hijacked a shipment of particle beam weapons from Xanatos Enterprises, Elisa was the first to suspect it was Tony Dracon. While Captain Chavez didn't disagree, she wasn't able to arrange for a warrant due to a lack of evidence. Elisa went to the Park Manor Hotel and confronted Dracon in the lobby, who arrogantly denied while ordering Glasses to go sell guns on the street right in front of her, knowing she had nothing to convict him on. Frustrated, Elisa returned to her loft to make dinner – hanging her gun up on the coatrack. Broadway, having finished watching a showing of Showdown visited her and she invited him to join her for dinner. While she was cooking, Broadway found her gun and began playing with it when it went off, shooting Elisa. Collapsing to the floor and horrified by what he had done, Broadway brought her to Manhattan General where she was operated on by Dr. Sato. Not yet awake, she was visited by her family and by Goliath who vowed vengeance on Dracon when he had been named as a suspect. Dr. Sato successfully kept her alive despite her flatlining and she awoke to her family who told her that Dracon had been arrested for grand theft and that Xanatos's guns had been destroyed. After her family had left, Goliath and Elisa entered the hospital room where Broadway apologized for what he had done, while Elisa acknowledged that she should have been much more careful with where she had left it. Goliath left her to rest, but before stroking her hair as the two gargoyles slept on the ledge outside her room. ("Deadly Force")
As the weeks past, by early 1995, Elisa was able to get around on crutches. She visited the gargoyles at the castle to find a man calling himself Macbeth who claimed to know all about them. When the sun set, Macbeth "invited" the gargoyles to come stay at his home. When Goliath refused, Macbeth insisted... violently. In the resulting fight, Macbeth succeeded in defeating the gargoyles and kidnapping Brooklyn, Lexington, and Bronx. Goliath, incensed with Elisa's insistence, still refused to leave the castle and ordered Hudson and Broadway to remain there and guard their home while he went after his captured clanmates. While Hudson and Broadway agreed with Elisa, they didn't want to defy Goliath – but Elisa reminded them that Goliath told them to "protect their home" and that the castle was no longer their home. Before departing, they all agreed that they couldn't leave the Grimorum Arcanorum in Xanatos's hands, they confronted Owen who successfully defended the book before Elisa disarmed him with one of her crutches. Goliath brought his clanmates home but was called down to a nearby rooftop and was shocked that Broadway and Hudson didn't follow his orders and even more furious when Elisa told him that she had found them a new home. Though enraged, the rest of the clan stood up to him, agreeing that it was time for them to leave. Goliath reluctantly agreed, and they quickly moved into the Clock Tower. Elisa admitted that the place needed work, but that it could be home. ("Enter Macbeth")
Fully recovered and back on the job, Elisa brings a TV to the precinct and meets Matt Bluestone, for the first time, on the front steps who helps her bring it inside. She leaves the TV in a broom closet before reporting to Captain Chavez who tells Elisa that she's assigning her a partner; and formally introduces her to Matt. Elisa is adamant that she doesn't need a partner, but Matt tells her they'll just need to make the best of it. Elisa visits the gargoyles in the Clock Tower and gifts them with the television before meeting up with Goliath in the Library next door. Goliath is somber, angry at Xanatos and wanting to make Xanatos feel what he's feeling now. They return to the Clock Tower and turn on the new TV where they see Xanatos on TV being interviewed by Travis Marshall donating the Eye of Odin to the Museum of Modern Art; Goliath roars and runs out of the Clock Tower while Elisa begins her shift with Matt. While on their beat, Matt tells Elisa all about the conspiracy theories he believes in, particularly the Illuminati but she is uninterested. They are called to an incident at the Museum of Modern Art and arrive in time to see a gargoyle-like thing exiting the window. Matt draws his gun and fires, despite Elisa's protests as the thing flies off – but Elisa hears the bullet bouncing off metal. When Matt asks her why she tried to stop him, she replies that they don't know what it was and whether or not it would have blown up. Throughout the course of the following day, the city is in a panic about gargoyles but Elisa knows they are being impersonated. When she fills Goliath in, he quickly deduces that its the Steel Clan. When they begin to leave to go confront him, Elisa advises them to stay in due to the city's panic, but Goliath doesn't listen. Elisa heads down to her car to follow when Matt catches up with her. She tells him that she doesn't want a partner, but he again insists telling her that when she doesn't want a partner is usually the time she needs one the most. Elisa gives in and they drive to the Eyrie Building where they are stopped by Owen Burnett. Elisa reminds him that she' always been welcome before, but Owen tells her that things have changed before asking if she has a warrant. On their way out, Elisa spots the gargoyles leaving the castle and she gets into her car with Matt as they follow. They arrive at a scene where the crowd is watching the gargoyles battle the Steel Clan. As the gargoyles leave, pursued by the robots, Elisa and Matt get a ride on the helicopter and arrive at the Statue of Liberty finding only the remains of the Steel Clan. Elisa meets Goliath back at the Clock Tower and tells him that the public has been "reassured that the gargoyles were robots" and who created them is still under investigation. Goliath is proud that they managed to defeat Xanatos, knowing they could do so again. Elisa promises him that they will – together. ("The Edge")
Not long afterwards, as Elisa was getting ready for work, she had just placed her badge in her inside pocket when Demona burst in though the skylight and shot Elisa with a dart. Demona gloated that Elisa had just been poisoned and would be dead with twenty-four hours, telling her to tell Goliath that she had the antidote and to sent Goliath to the Old York Opera House for it. But Elisa removed the dart, it had hit her badge – she was fine. But when Elisa told the gargoyles, Goliath was still determined to go find out what Demona wanted; and Hudson reasoned that if Goliath didn't, Demona would know her plan had failed and she'd go after Elisa again. Goliath ordered Lexington and Broadway to escort Elisa home and stay with her until sunrise. ("Long Way to Morning")
Elisa began pursuing Xanatos, almost obsessively and would often tail his limousine and so she asked her brother, Derek Maza (who worked as a helicopter pilot for the NYPD) to fly her as she followed him by air. They followed him to the Diamond Exchange and were on the scene when the call came in that Jackal and Hyena had stolen the Coyote Diamond. Jackal nearly destroyed their helicopter with a bazooka, but their lives were saved by Xanatos. After landing the helicopter, Jackal and Hyena escaped where Xanatos briefly taunted Elisa. Impressed with Derek's skills as a pilot, Xanatos immediately offered the young man a job as his personal pilot and bodyguard – much to Elisa's annoyance, who urged Derek to ignore him. When Elisa told the gargoyles about Xanatos's offer, Goliath urged her to tell Derek the truth – the whole truth. Elisa wouldn't, saying it wasn't her secret to tell. Broadway agreed with Elisa that Derek should just trust her, while Brooklyn added that trust doesn't mean much without honesty. Goliath even gave Elisa permission to show them to Derek, and when she approached Derek he told her that he had decided to accept Xanatos's offer. Elisa went to her father who took her side, advising her to tell Derek it would "kill his mother if he quit the family business". Elisa even approached Derek in the Mens' Locker Room to try to get him up to the Clock Tower, but Derek was adamant about having the right to do what he wanted with his life. After another attempt on Xanatos's life by Jackal and Hyena, Goliath again told Elisa to introduce Derek to them – but Elisa didn't think it would be enough, wanting proof of whatever Xanatos was planning. She went to Rikers Island and visited with Fox who told Elisa all about how Xanatos created the Pack and that she was the only one aware that Xanatos was the boss, that Jackal and Hyena were following Xanatos's orders and how he set up his own assassination attempt – because he wanted her brother. She even told Elisa that Xanatos instructed her to tell her all of this, feeling he had no need to hide his plans. As Elisa exited, she revealed that she had recorded the entire conversation and had planned to play it for Derek. When Goliath arrived to tell Elisa that Xanatos and Derek flew north, she figured it must be to Xanadu and they made their way there where they defeated and captured Jackal and Hyena. Xanatos thanked Elisa for her help and left them to their privacy where Derek was surprised to see the gargoyles despite Xanatos telling him about them. Elisa was surprised that Xanatos had done that, Derek told her Xanatos claimed he tried to help the gargoyles but they rejected him while admitting that he had made a few mistakes in dealing with them and Elisa – but still refused to quit. As the siblings began to argue, Goliath quieted them by reminding them that his rookery siblings were dead and that they needed to appreciate one another. As it began to snow, Elisa admitted that she had been wrong about a lot, that Derek didn't have to be a cop and was allowed to live his own life – but that she wasn't wrong about Xanatos and gave him the recording of her conversation with Fox. Elisa and the gargoyles returned to the Clock Tower as she solemnly watched the snow fall. ("Her Brother's Keeper")
As the snowstorm continued, Elisa approached Goliath in the Clock Tower where she noticed that something was bothering him before saying it was time for her to do a little of the "old protect and serve"; which caught Goliath's interest and she explained the police motto – that they protect and serve the people and each other. Goliath decided to go with Elisa and learn more about her job. Elisa and Matt headed downtown where they stopped at the General Store owned by an old friend of Matt's who had been robbed three times in the last month. Elisa stayed outside and used a state-of-the-art radio equipment on her collar to communicate with Goliath. When Goliath asked why the shopkeeper kept his store open despite the risk, Elisa informed him that this was a dying neighborhood and if he closed, people would have nowhere to buy food – that the community needed him. Their conversation was cut short as they were called to a disturbance in Times Square where a monster was rampaging. Elisa and Matt confronted it, but their bullets were useless; before it could throw a car at them, Goliath intervened. The situation escalated as the Trio arrived as did Xanatos in his exo-frame, a Steel Clan robot, and Demona (the latter was all too eager for an apocalyptic showdown). When the press arrived, Elisa communicated to Goliath that they didn't want this on the news, which gave Goliath the idea to flatter Xanatos into moving the battle elsewhere. After Xanatos suggested the George Washington Bridge, Elisa ditched Matt and returned to the Clock Tower to get Hudson and Bronx – but the battle had concluded and Xanatos escaped with Demona. Goliath emerged from the river, mourning "the monster" – his rookery brother. Before returning home, Lexington asked Goliath what they protect and while Hudson suggested the Clock Tower, Goliath disagreed. Looking out over the island of Manhattan, Goliath declared it to be their castle and from that day forward they would protect all who lived there – human and gargoyle alike. They began by tracking down Mr. Jaffe's assailaint and scaring him into returning the money he had stolen and turning himself in. Elisa mused that the city was already feeling safer. ("Reawakening")
Protecting and Serving... with Gargoyles!
After Coyote 1.0 and Dingo broke Wolf, Jackal, and Hyena out of prison; Elisa informed the clan when they awoke and told them that the police were investigating PackMedia Studios when Lexington demanded they go there. But she agreed with Goliath that the Pack wouldn't be foolish enough to return to the studio and that they should confront Xanatos. ("Leader of the Pack")
Elisa visited Derek at an airfield after he had missed Sunday dinner where he was flying his new glider. They again, almost argued about his continuing to work for Xanatos, with Derek believing he could handle it – but Elisa warned him that he was fooling himself. When Brooklyn and Broadway reported meeting a strange, winged female, and presented a tracking device bearing the logo of Gen-U-Tech Systems, Elisa agreed to investigate and went to Gen-U-Tech with Matt to investigate a kidnapping. But lacking a warrant, Dr. Sevarius dismissed them, but Elisa didn't trust him – believing that the scientist was hiding something. Elisa returned to Gen-U-Tech the following evening with Matt to investigate a fight and while there, she discovered that Xanatos owned Gen-U-Tech. That night, she went to the Eyrie Building and was invited up by Owen to "stop the senseless violence" and arrived in time to see Goliath battling a winged creature that called himself Talon. When Talon told her that Goliath made him "like this", Elisa didn't believe him but was still committed to helping him. Moments later, Talon accidently revealed that he was actually Derek – much to Elisa's horror. She tried to convince Talon that Xanatos had done this to her, but he believed it was an accident and Xanatos was only trying to help. But while Elisa tried to convince her brother that Xanatos was lying, Talon accidently electrocuted her before he and the other Mutates fled. Furious, Elisa got to her feet and declared war on Xanatos. Upon returning to the Clock Tower, Elisa collapsed to the floor and cried. ("Metamorphosis")
Elisa next assisted Matt in testing RECAP, and invited Lexington to come watch – joined by Goliath. Their chance to test it arrived when the Goldencup Bakery Building was broken into, with Elisa hoping that Matt could handle RECAP better than a squad car – only for Matt to reply that she never lets him drive. The RECAP drone was destroyed and the perpetrator escaped. As Elisa and Matt conducted their investigation, Lexington radioed her to let her know that the creature they saw was Coldstone, which Elisa had already guessed. She told Lex that Coldstone tried to access top secret government defense specs but instead downloaded a powerful Computer Virus – as a favor, she arranged for Lex to get ahold of the RECAP visor. Matt quickly discovered the theft and was able to track RECAP to Ellis Island where, despite Elisa attempting stop him, he called in a SWAT team and they boarded police boats to the island. Elisa kept silent as the gargoyles disabled the boats to slow the police down – but they arrived in time for the gargoyles to flee and to find the visor... and a rat. ("Legion")
When the Scrolls of Merlin were shipped to New York, Elisa and Matt were assigned to the Scrolls' escort team and met up with the H.M.S. Churchill at sea. The ship was soon attacked by Harrier Jets flown by Banquo and Fleance. The thieves managed to get the drop on Elisa and Matt and stole the Scrolls. After a fuller report of the situation was made, once arriving in Manhattan, Elisa and the gargoyles assumed that Xanatos was behind the theft. Elisa was furious, feeling that she had been made to look like an amateur and without evidence that Xanatos was behind... it fell to the gargoyles. The following night, they retrieved the Scrolls from Macbeth and gave them to Elisa so she was able to return them to the museum. ("A Lighthouse in the Sea of Time")
When Titania's Mirror was put on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, fearing that it was in danger, Goliath and Elisa personally protected it. Elisa went undercover at the museum dressed as a security guard and was prepared when Demona arrived and attempted to steal the mirror. Demona was furious at the very sight of Elisa and fled after Goliath also revealed himself. As they chased her through the museum and through Central Park, Demona tried to murder Elisa a few times before she escaped. But Elisa was frustrated when it was discovered that Demona was a decoy as thieves took the mirror while they were chasing her. When Elisa asked what Demona was capable of doing with the mirror, she learned of the existence of the Third Race. Suddenly, a burst of magic hit Elisa and she was transformed into a gargoyle – much to everyone's shock except hers. When she looked at Goliath, she was ecstatic and embraced him – declaring how wonderful it was that he had been transformed into a gargoyle. Goliath tried to explain to her that they had always been gargoyles, that she was the one who had been changed – even asking her if she had wings, why she needed him to catch her when they first met. Goliath took her to the sky to teach her how to glide and, for the first time, he noticed how beautiful she was. But Elisa was horrified to see the city full of humans. The gargoyles (the actual gargoyles) left her to fly to the Twin Towers as Demona continued her use of the Mirror. When they returned with the Mirror, having spotted the trickster, Puck, Elisa recognized him as a "harmless trickster" from Shakespeare's play. Goliath again encouraged her to glide when magic burst from the mirror and transformed him into a human – and he fell. Elisa flew down, caught him, and returned him to the rooftop. Goliath got to his feet, delighted that Elisa had been "changed back to normal" and she found herself having to explain to them that they were gargoyles changed into humans. They plotted their next move and confronted Demona and Puck at Rockefeller Center where Elisa got the drop on Demona, fighting her on even terms for the first time. She got ahold of Demona's particle beam and was able to defeat the gargoyle before they captured Puck. Returning to the Twin Towers, they had Puck turn the humans back to normal and, for a brief moment, Goliath and Elisa shared a moment before Goliath was returned to his gargoyle form. They released Puck and returned to the Clock Tower. Goliath, now aware of feelings he had been carrying wanted to discuss them with Elisa. However, Elisa had long been aware that she had developed feelings of her own for Goliath and long ago decided it couldn't work. She gently wouldn't let him say what he wanted to say because that was just the way it was. She was human, he was a gargoyle. ("The Mirror")
After Matt Bluestone had gone missing for three days, Chavez asked Elisa to look into it. Broadway, who had been visiting, overheard it and decided to join in and arrived at Matt's apartment in time to save Elisa's life from a masked assailant who was going through Matt's belongings. Elisa was shocked and consternated to see Broadway on her assignment against her wishes – Broadway saved her life a second time when the bomb planted in Matt's apartment went off. While Elisa still attempted to send Broadway home, Broadway talked her into allowing him to tag along. Elisa then kept Matt's appointment at Cleopatra's Needle where she met Matt's old partner, Martin Hacker, and learned that he had once been a member of the FBI. She also learned that Matt was on his own mission, to search for the gangster, Mace Malone and hopefully expose the Illuminati. After Hacker departed, Broadway intervened again when Elisa was confronted by Pal Joey. She then made her way to Mace Malone's old office, which was currently being rented by an accountant calling himself G.F. Benton, who claimed to be a "Mace Malone buff". While there, Elisa spotted a silver falcon on the Apex Tower before she was shown a photograph of Mace Malone with Dominic Dracon and then directed to the old Silver Falcon Nightclub. She and Broadway forced their way in where they found Matt and operatives working for Tony Dracon. Glasses spotted them and set off previously equipped explosives burying them. Broadway managed to save Elisa from the debris, and Elisa made her way out as Glasses dug her up, to find out if she was carrying Mace's old letter on her – she was, and it was confiscated and destroyed. Tony Dracon soon arrived and revealed they were searching for uncut jewels that his grandfather and Mace stole seventy years prior. When the safe beneath the old nightclub turned out to be a bust, Elisa revealed that she knew where the stones were and negotiated a deal for Dracon to set her and Matt free in exchange – knowing Broadway would find Mace's letter with the clue and figure out what she had. After sunset, they returned to the Apex Tower by helicopter and Elisa found a bag hidden in the mouth of the Falcon by Mace before spotting Broadway and leaping. Broadway caught her and Elisa made her way back up to the balcony of the skyscraper while Broadway freed Matt and dealt with Dracon. Upon reaching the top, Elisa was confronted by Dominic Dracon, whom she had figured out was GF Benton. Elisa turned the tables on the old gangster, revealing their were no jewels before taking him into custody. Elisa emerged from this mystery with a newfound respect for both of her partners. ("The Silver Falcon")
By Halloween, Elisa was picking up her costume when she spotted Mr. Jaffe fleeing from the General Store. She entered and drew her gun where she soon came upon a gigantic monster. She survived and the creature fled as the police arrived. Officer Morgan approached Elisa reminding her that he spent most of his shifts the entire month cleaning up after the creature. After sunset, Elisa approached Goliath at the Clock Tower and told him about her encounter with the creature, Goliath felt guilty about how he couldn't have been there to face it with her; but Elisa reassured him that he couldn't – but it was helpful to know he cared. Not too long after, Elisa received an anonymous tip (courtesy of Xanatos) about where to find the creature at Felice's Meats where they found the creature. Goliath and the creature did battle where Goliath briefly subdued it, only for Xanatos to arrive in his damaged exo-frame and attempted to retrieve the jewel around her neck only for the magic within it to repel him. The creature arose and escaped while Xanatos also fled the scene. Believing the creature was another mutated victim of Xanatos's, Elisa was determined to retrieve the jewel around the creature's neck before Xanatos could. But Goliath was suspicious and he and Elisa followed Xanatos back to the castle in time to overhear Xanatos brag to Owen that he had enacted Plan C where the gargoyles would do all the work of getting the Eye away from Fox in an attempted to thwart him. But Goliath refused to be a pawn in Xanatos's schemes and informed the billionaire that they would not participate at all. Xanatos finally revealed the truth, the creature was Fox and she had been affected by the Eye of Odin. Xanatos began to plead with Goliath for his help to save Fox's life but Elisa was adamantly against getting involved with whatever he was scheming. When Xanatos attempted to play the Demona card by reminding the gargoyle over his own grief at losing his mate, Elisa cut in believing that this was Xanatos's Plan D and should it fail he'd move on to E or F. Elisa and Goliath departed the castle to attend the Halloween Street Fair in Greenwich Village. Elisa, dressed as Belle from Beauty and the Beast and Goliath shared a dance. After an unfortunate encounter with a man dressed as a werewolf, Elisa deduced that Goliath made the decision to help Xanatos – which the billionaire was pleased to hear after locating them with another Scarab radio transmitter. They encountered the werefox not too far from there and chased her up to a nearby rooftop, Elisa throwing her arms around the billionaire so he could fly her up (all while reminding him that she trusted him about as far as she could throw him). The werefox emerged and locked eyes with Elisa – seeing herself in her human form, the werefox's feelings of self loathing came to the surface and she pounced towards Elisa. Goliath restrained the werefox long enough for Xanatos to seize the Eye and return Fox to her human form – saving her life. Elisa removed her skirt and covered Fox to help preserve her dignity and she and the gargoyles departed. Shortly after, when Goliath was invited to be the Best Man at Xanatos and Fox's wedding, Elisa told him it was foolish to even consider going and was unhappy the following night when she found out he did attend. ("Eye of the Beholder", "Vows")
Elisa later participated in a hostage situation when Brendan Quarters and Margot Yale were being held captive by a Terrorist and her men, but the Manhattan Clan captured the terrorists and rescued the hostages. The following night, Elisa had Casablanca playing on the television as she was about to leave for her shift when the broadcast was interrupted by Demona who was chanting in Latin. Elisa rushed to the precinct but when the sun set, Elisa turned to stone. She became flesh again at sunrise not noticing the passage of time, much to her confusion. Later that afternoon, Chavez told them that the FCC tracked the broadcast to PackMedia Studios and that offers that investigated discovered signs of a conflict but no leads. Elisa immediately rushed to the Eyrie Building to confront Xanatos; but Owen prevented the confrontation as the sun set and both turned to stone. Without being aware, that night, Elisa's life was in immediate danger as Demona arrived with every intention of smashing Elisa's statue killing her... but the plan was foiled and the spell was broken. Elisa was warmly greeted by the gargoyles. ("City of Stone" Part One", "City of Stone" Part Three", "City of Stone" Part Four")
Not long afterwards, a fatigued Elisa entered the Clock Tower while Hudson and Broadway were reading a newspaper article about Rosaria Sanchez and Peter Choy who rescued a five-year-old child from The Lake in Central Park and were honored as heroes, when Broadway drew a comparison between the teens and Elisa, the detective insisted she wasn't a hero – she just did her job. She checked in with Lexington who was working towards rebooting and repairing Coldstone and assured the young gargoyle that he'd figure it out – she herself wanted to get home and get some sleep. As the sun rose, Elisa was exiting the precinct, saying good-bye to Officer Morgan when a familiar looking red-headed police officer gave her a hateful glare while entering the police station. Morgan pegged her as a rookie for handcuffing a guy that big with his hands in front of him. Elisa went back inside to give the "rookie" some advise, but the rookie and the perp began to run. Elisa gave chase and found out they had entered the Clock Tower. Drawing her gun, Elisa climbed the ladder only for the "rookie" to kick her gun from her hand and the perp, whom she realized was Macbeth to capture her and knock her out. Elisa came to shortly before sunset and was relieved that all of the gargoyles were present and accounted for before realizing that Coldstone had been taken. After sunset, Elisa told the gargoyles what happened, even though she didn't recognize the woman despite her seeming familiar. Goliath resolved to confront Macbeth and rescue Coldstone left with the rest of the gargoyles as Elisa went on duty for the evening. Elisa returned to the Clock Tower before sunset, exhausted, but concerned as the gargoyles hadn't returned. She was surprised to be confronted on the balcony of the Clock Tower by Demona and shocked when the sun rose and Demona transformed into a red-headed human. Elisa attempted to arrest Demona, but Demona revealed that she had captured Goliath and the gargoyles and planned to bring them all to Belvedere Castle at high noon and if Elisa showed up, Demona would kill her but if she didn't, Goliath "would see" what human loyalty was truly worth. Elisa followed Demona through the police station until Demona left in a taxi-cab; Elisa didn't bother to pursue realizing she already knew where Demona was headed. Morgan approached Elisa, concerned. He asked if she is getting any sleep. Elisa admitted that she barely had had any rest in the last forty hours. Morgan pointed out that her shift is over so she should head home and get some rest. Elisa wished she could go to sleep and wake up to a world without monsters, good or bad, just normal life. Normal life was something Morgan wished for as well. It would be nice for a while, Elisa mused, but "they" need her. Morgan, misinterpreting, asked her isn't that why she became a cop in the first place. Elisa, reinvigorated, agreed and thanked Morgan for his help. Elisa arrived at Belvedere Castle as Demona pointed a bazooka at her, but she told the gargoyle-turned-human that she was unarmed counting on Macbeth's sense of honor. Macbeth goaded Demona into dropping her weapon and fighting the detective hand-to-hand. Demona and Elisa grappled with Elisa holding the upper hand due to Demona's lack of experience fighting as a human. "Othello" soon took control of Coldstone and helped drive off Demona and Macbeth before helping Elisa free the gargoyles and departing for parts unknown until Coldstone conquered the forces at war within him. Elisa stopped to finally take a nap next to Goliath's statue. ("High Noon")
Elisa accompanied Goliath to watch the Fortress-2 take off and questioned the necessity of watching over it, but Goliath feared what Xanatos might have in store for it and she urged him to be careful after he took off to follow it. ("Outfoxed")
After several months of being partnered with Matt Bluestone and hiding her association with the gargoyles from him, those days came to an end. After acquiring the name and location of Jack Dane (living in Witness Protection), Elisa lied to Matt about spending the last thirty minutes cleaning a spilled sink in the women's' locker room (in truth she was in the Clock Tower visiting the clan), she declined an offer to join Matt in checking out his lead. The following day, Elisa found Matt inside the Clock Tower, suspiciously looking at all of the furniture, appliances, and the television he helped her bring in the first day they met; Elisa lied once more, calling the Clock Tower her little hideaway and dragged him out just before the sunset. However the lies ended when Matt Bluestone did track down Mace Malone – still alive and a member of the Illuminati. Mace offered Matt a place in the Society and, as a show of good faith, told Matt about Elisa's connection to the gargoyles. That night, as their shift was coming to an end, Matt demanded that Elisa let him drive and as he sped towards a cliff, he confronted her head on. Elisa regained control of the car, but Matt was determined to make them expose themselves. Elisa finally relented and assured Matt that the gargoyles don't follow her everywhere. Calmed and happy Elisa finally told him the truth, she took him back to the precinct but didn't arrive in time; so she told him to meet her in the Clock Tower before sunset. She didn't disappoint him as the gargoyles awoke in front of Matt Bluestone, having been eager to meet him for a while – Elisa agreeing it was better late than never. Elisa asked that Matt keep their secret and Matt agreed in exchange for a favor and spoke with Goliath about his plan to expose the Illuminati – and Goliath agreed to help while, as a show of trust, Elisa agreed to stay out of it. While the Illuminati remained elusive, Goliath and Matt returned as true allies. After the sun rose, Matt asked why Elisa had kept him in the dark for so long. Elisa admitted that it wasn't due to a lack of trust, but she felt special being the only human they confided in. They emerged from the Clock Tower true partners.("Revelations")
Elisa received an anonymous tip that a nuclear powerplant was about to melt down in Long Island, and was accompanied by Lexington and Broadway to investigate. In the middle of a rainstorm, Lex and Broadway were attacked in the air at and Elisa was nearly run off the road near Black Rock Point by a gargoyle that appeared to be Goliath – who laughed maniacally at them in the dark. They returned to the Clock Tower and confronted Goliath that night, but Goliath denied their questions and Brooklyn confirmed that Goliath was with him that night in midtown. Goliath returned to where they saw the creature when a Gen-U-Tech tracking device was found and they sent Broadway and Lexington to investigate. Elisa and Goliath continued their search – a search that brought them to an off coast oil rig where Xanatos and Sevarius were at each other's throats. Goliath and Elisa entered the giant oil tank and discovered a new gargoyle who called himself Thailog. Elisa quickly deduced that Thailog was a clone of Goliath, but the gargoyle leader was disgusted and appalled, and his first instinct was to call Thailog an "abomination". But Elisa quickly calmed Goliath down, reminding him that no matter how the clone came into being he was now as much a gargoyle as Goliath – even convincing Goliath that Thailog was his son. Goliath agreed with the detective, if anyone was to blame it was Xanatos, and he agreed to release Thailog, but the clone attacked Goliath and subdued him with an experimental gas before chaining him and Elisa inside of the oil tank, and capturing Xanatos and Sevarius as well. The whole scheme had been staged by Thailog to kill Xanatos and rob the billionaire of $20 million. Thailog lured Goliath out there hoping to meet Goliath and share the money with him, but Goliath's initial reaction put Thailog off and so he decided to hate Goliath as well – despite Goliath's attempts to start over with Thailog. Thailog stroked Elisa's chin, his physical attraction to her being readily apparent, saying she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Thailog left them all to die, but Elisa managed to escape and free the rest of them. She, Sevarius, and Xanatos made their way back to the boat while Goliath confronted Thailog. Goliath survived believing Thailog had been killed – but Thailog escaped with the $20 million. ("Double Jeopardy")
Soon the Pack resurfaced. Elisa, Hudson, Bronx and Goliath attempted to capture the villains but found that they had been upgraded by Xanatos. Dingo had been given an advanced exo-frame, Jackal and Hyena had been upgraded with cybernetic implants, and Wolf had been mutated with wolf-DNA. Elisa was ultimately subdued by Hyena – and the heroes were imprisoned. The Trio came to the rescue and thanks to Brooklyn's strategic thinking and leadership, and Elisa ultimately captured Dingo after commandeering an electromagnetic crane. ("Upgrade")
Elisa took an assignment to go undercover as a corrupt cop after Tony Dracon began tightening his grip on his protection rackets and hadn't visited the gargoyles in several nights, causing Goliath and Broadway concern. While on the assignment, Elisa began shaking down small businesses that the Dracon Family had been exploiting so that word would reach Dracon about a crooked cop muscling in. The plan was working and when Matt Bluestone brought in Pal Joey after the bombing of Art and Lois', Pal Joey deflected to a crooked cop. At that moment Elisa appeared and asked to speak with Joey alone, and then she began threatening him and through Joey, Tony Dracon himself. But Elisa was called away by Captain Chavez who "heard" reports of Elisa demanding protection money before suspending her and confiscating her gun and badge. But this was all a performance meant for Pal Joey to overhear and take back to Dracon, which he did. Glasses would soon abduct Elisa as she was shaking down Dave's Ball and Stick. While the gangsters likely meant to kill her and knock out the competition, Goliath and Broadway intervened until Elisa angrily forced the two gargoyles to let the gangsters go so she could do business. Glasses reported this back to Dracon who saw opportunity instead of competition and invited Elisa to dinner instead. As they dined, Dracon proposed they work together and that she bring the gargoyles in so they could take control of the whole city. Elisa tried to talk Dracon out of this, but Goliath and Broadway entered the penthouse where both agreed to join up – much to Dracon's delight. Elisa was annoyed at first, but quickly figured out that the gargoyles had figured out what she was doing and she incorporated it into her mission. Dracon and Elisa went to the General Store where Matt was working undercover with Mr. Jaffe and Dracon threatened Jaffe on camera – which was when Elisa and Matt revealed themselves to arrest him. But Dracon got the drop on them until Goliath's intervention. Now having the evidence needed to keep Dracon behind bars, Elisa arrested Dracon as Chavez returned her badge and gun. Elisa returned to the Clock Tower where Broadway confirmed that he was the one that figured out that she was undercover while Elisa and Goliath reconfirmed their commitment to protect each other (even from themselves) and the city. ("Protection")
Eventually, Elisa's family grew more and more concerned with not having heard from Derek. While entertaining her family with a home cooked dinner, Peter declared that if Derek didn't check in another week that he would file a missing person report when Beth thought she caught a glimpse of something with wings at the window. Elisa visited with Goliath at the Clock Tower, tired of continuing to lie to her parents about Derek, but unsure of what to tell them before warning Goliath to be more careful as Beth nearly spotted him. When Goliath denied having been at Elisa's window, they deduced that it was Talon and Goliath admitted that he had spotted Talon and the other Mutates flying to and from the Eyrie Building and that he had wished to spare her the pain, but Elisa made Goliath take her to the Eyrie Building where he was attacked by Talon, Fang, and Claw. Elisa unsuccessfully attempted to talk Talon down, but only Maggie the Cat was able to when Xanatos intervened also assuring Talon that Goliath and Elisa weren't the enemy – resulting in Elisa declaring Xanatos the enemy. Talon told Elisa about what happened at Gen-U-Tech and Sevarius's death when Elisa revealed that Sevarius did not die that night – but Talon wouldn't hear it, promising to kill Goliath when Elisa wasn't around to protect him. Elisa went to Gen-U-Tech to see Sevarius and found his discarded briefcase in the parking lot. Elisa, fearing that Talon did something stupid, had the security guard show her the security tape where she was surprised to see that it was Goliath that had abducted Sevarius. Knowing he'd need a place for Sevarius to work, she made her way down to Cyberbiotics' abandoned underground research facility. Goliath justified the kidnapping by both fearing what Talon would do and wanting to force a cure out of Sevarius due to the pain Elisa had been in – but Elisa reminded Goliath that there was no guarantee a cure would be provided and that even if it worked, the ends didn't justify the means and talked Goliath into releasing Sevarius when Talon invaded with the Mutates – intent on killing Sevarius and Goliath. When thee doctor presented a vial he claimed contained a cure, Elisa expressed her skepticism. Xanatos soon arrived with the Steel Clan and rescued Sevarius, Talon learning who his true enemy had been all along. Elisa forgave her brother and Goliath revealed, maybe for the first time, that Elisa was already part of his clan when he invited the Mutates to join the Manhattan Clan. Talon declined so he could start his own clan down in the Labyrinth. Elisa soon brough Beth and her parents down to the Labyrinth and the Maza family was reunited. ("The Cage")
After Hudson had, seemingly, been turned to stone; Goliath came to Elisa explaining to her their search for a cure to the curse. In a moment of desperation, Goliath asked Elisa to help him find Demona – hoping that she would be able to undo the curse; but Elisa told him that she had no idea where to even start looking. She accompanied Goliath and Lexington back to where the Hudson Statue had been left. But, on the way, they came upon Brooklyn and Broadway being chased by, what appeared to be Macbeth over Royal Persian Carpets. The sun rose before Broadway could land and he turned to stone in midair. Elisa emptied her clip into a crane's cable, causing a crate to fall and shatter and Broadway landed safely on the carpets. Sometime that day, she had Broadway craned back up onto the roof where he awoke alive – Goliath calling her the miracle that saved him. They returned to the location of the Hudson Statue when "Macbeth" attacked once more and destroyed the statue before being "killed" by an enraged Goliath who discovered the robot's true identity. They all stood around the remains of what they believed to be Hudson, when the real Hudson returned and they returned to the Clock Tower. ("The Price")
Boarding the Skiff
As 1995 was coming to a close, Elisa was working at her desk when Morgan and Phil Travanti walked in laughing about an "old guy" they brought in wearing full medival armor and carrying a sword that claimed he was searching for gargoyles. Elisa began to laugh it off until Morgan told her that the "old guy" even asked for one of the gargoyles by name – he was looking for Goliath. Elisa immediately made her way up to the Clock Tower to bring this Guardian to Goliath's attention – but Goliath was just as confused as she was. Both of them agreed that they needed to find out what else he knew and she agreed to bring him to Belvedere Castle in an hour.
Claiming she knew the Guardian's family, Elisa got him out of lockup and returned his sword to him. But Guardian assured Elisa that if she did know Goliath than she knew his family. Goliath soon arrived with Bronx – and the Guardian was jubilant to see him, telling Goliath that he knew him, Princess Katharine, the Magus, and the gargoyle [[Eggs] before revealing that he was Tom and that they needed to return as the eggs were in danger. Guardian led them to the skiff on The Lake and asked them to board as Goliath explained to Elisa who Tom was. But the Guardian urgently told them that if they didn't leave, that the Archmage would destroy the eggs. The three of them boarded the skiff as the Guardian cast a spell and the mists began to swirl around them. Elisa asked how he got there if he was from Goliath's time, and the Guardian told them his story. How they protected the eggs, how Kenneth II was murdered and overthrown by Constantine III, how they brought the Eggs to Avalon, and how his mother left to protect him. Elisa was moved by this story as Goliath acknowledged the debt he owed him. Elisa's last question was how he was still alive, and Guardian told her that time passes differently on Avalon – for every hour that passes there, one day goes by in the real world. ("Avalon" Part One)
They soon arrived on Avalon itself and the Guardian introduced them to Angela and Gabriel; when Elisa expressed confusion (she was expecting Gargoyle Eggs), Guardian apologized as he always called the Avalon Clan that. As they were about to make their way back to Oberon's Palace, they were accosted by the Archmage, who manifested out of the sand. Elisa fired two bullets into the Archmage, but to no avail. The Archmage retreated, promising they would die at sunrise. Upon arriving at the palace, they were introduced to Princess Katharine and the Magus – Elisa couldn't help but notice the Magus's heartache watching the romance between Katharine and the Magus. When the attack was elaborated upon, Goliath and Elisa realized their attackers were Demona and Macbeth – and Elisa deduced that Macbeth and Demona stole the Grimorum, the Eye of Odin, and the Phoenix Gate from the Clock Tower while under the control of the Weird Sisters and they in turn gave the talismans to the Archmage. After further explanations, Goliath drew up plans to steal the Eye of Odin and the Phoenix Gate from the Archmage and left with Angela and Gabriel while asking Elisa to come up with a contingency plan in case they failed. Remembering the Magus's mention of the "Sleeping King", Elisa asked for more information about him. ("Avalon" Part Two)
The Magus guided Elisa to the Hollow Hill and she had trouble keeping up as the Magus confessed to usually being on his own and told Elisa about how when hey arrived on Avalon, they lived as innocently as children – until they grew up and Katharine fell in love with Tom and they became as husband and wife, raising the gargoyles as their own children. Knowing that the Magus still loved Katharine, Elisa asked why he didn't fight for her – but the Magus focused on tending to the eggs. Upon arriving at the Hollow Hill, they were attacked by two Enchanted Suits of Armor. Elisa fired two bullets at them, but to no effect. The Magus disabled the animated armor with his magic. Elisa approached the dais at the center of the Hill and took a literal leap of faith over a chasm before the platform lowered and Elisa awoke the Sleeping King: Arthur Pendragon. They brought the king back to Oberon's Palace where Elisa reminded Goliath that he had never actually defeated Macbeth and Demona and they needed the greatest warrior who ever lived, introducing them formally to the king. When Demona and Macbeth were spotted in the Apple Orchard, Arthur saw this as an advantage and recruited Gabriel and the Guardian as able-bodied knights as well as Elisa, saying he would lead them. Elisa's call to action came when a mind-controlled Demona invaded the Great Hall, ordered to kill everyone. Elisa fired a warning shot at Demona – only to discover she emptied the clip. Demona overcame her programming briefly and attacked Elisa – the detective would have likely perished had Gabriel and Guardian not intervened and Katharine defeated Demona with her own particle beam weapon.
Once the battle was over and the Archmage was defeated, they all rendezvoused on the beach to say their farewells. Angela asked to join Goliath in Manhattan, and Elisa asked King Arthur about his plans and he soon departed on his own skiff to see the world. Everyone said their farewells before Goliath, Elisa, Bronx and Angela boarded their skiff. Elisa noted Goliath's full pouch, and the gargoyle vowed that he'd see to it that nobody used the Phoenix Gate or the Eye of Odin ever again. Elisa was more concerned about getting back to New York as soon as possible. But Guardian cried out that Avalon doesn't take them where they want to go, but rather Avalon sends them where the need to be. Elisa couldn't help but ask what that meant as they massed into the mists. ("Avalon" Part Three)
The Avalon World Tour
Guardian's words quickly proved themselves true as Avalon did not return them to Manhattan but, as Goliath quickly recognized, the clan's ancestral home of Wyvern Hill. Feeling nostalgic, and eager for Angela to see the site, he swiftly scaled the cliffside, uncharacteristically leaving Angela to carry Elisa up. He showed his companions around, including where the rookery had once been – in awe, Angela figured that it must have once been beautiful. As a storm blew through, they took shelter in a nearby cave – where Goliath bitterly explained was the site that the Archmage was beleived to have made his final stand, and where the Vikings camped the night they shattered his clan. Angela grew concerned for her rookery father, and was shocked when Goliath lied to them about what he was seeing and hearing, as she was unfamiliar with the need to lie where she came from. Elisa explained to Angela that Wyvern Hill was full of bad memories and that old wounds could bleed like new ones. However, being driven to madness by mysterious forces, Goliath attacked Angela and Elisa before retreating into the cave. Elisa, Angela, and Bronx followed him, determined to help him. When Goliath fell into the chasm, Angela cried out, unsure of what to do until Elisa decisively suggested they climb down after him. They caught up with Goliath in time to witness the Megalith Dance collapsing all around them. When Angela asked about the two men she saw within, Goliath identified one of them, the Captain of the Guard, as "a friend", making peace with the man. The Captain appeared once more before ascending into the next plane. As they left the cave, Goliath told them about all that had happened, and Angela could only ask about what ever fate Hakon had made for himself. Elisa reclined against Goliath to sleep through the day, herself. ("Shadows of the Past")
After departing from Avalon again, the travelers found themselves in the ocean, Elisa musing that as soon as they returned to Manhattan, she planned to buy a hot dog from a street vender. But once more they weren't in Manhattan. Suddenly, a giant Sea Monster emerged near them, capsizing the Skiff. While Goliath, Angela, and Bronx drove off the Sea Monster, Elisa vanished – nearly drowned, she washed up on the beach and was found by Nick and Grandmother. She was taken inside Nick's home where Grandmother began using ancient techniques of the Haida people to heal Elisa's hypothermia. That evening, Elisa awoke and asked about her friends, but Grandmother explained that she was on Queen Florence Island, off the west coast of Canada. Grandmother put her back to sleep to allow her recovery to continue, promising that she would see her friends. It wasn't much later when Elisa was dressed and on her feet again, leaving to search for her friends on the island. When she saw a nearby Totem Pole, she asked Nick if gargoyles shared any connection to the monument. Later, Elisa found herself chased by a bear, but was saved by Bronx and reunited with Angela and Goliath (both hugging each other tightly) before Goliath mentioned encountering a clan of gargoyles – to Elisa's surprise as Grandmother told her there were no gargoyles on this island. Goliath warned Elisa that he had been told that Grandmother was a sorceress who deceived her. Elisa attempted to introduce Goliath to Grandmother, but before they could, the woman transformed before their eyes into the Thunderbird. Goliath engaged the Thunderbird in battle while Elisa begged him to stop. After transforming back, Elisa asked Grandmother why she attacked them and the woman explained that she wanted Natsilane to see a creature of legend to battle Raven the trickster (who had created illusions of gargoyles to mislead them). Furious at being manipulated, Goliath challenged Raven to battle – but Elisa instead introduced the gargoyles to Nick to convince him to battle Raven, however, he was still reluctant to do so as it challenged his current beliefs. However, Nick turned around and embraced his heritage and defeated Raven. Elisa congratulated him on a job well done before they departed for Avalon. ("Heritage")
As the mists parted again and the Skiff emerged, Elisa observed that it couldn't be Manhattan as it was too quiet and the water was way too clean. A gigantic metal object passed under the skiff with none of them being sure of what it was. Once they reached the shoreline, Elisa spotted a town in the distance and decided to investigate to both find out where they were and see if she could get word to Matt Bluestone back in New York City. Upon entering the town, Elisa quickly discovered they were in Loch Ness as a local tour guide called out to her to board his boat to tour the Loch for a chance to catch a glimpse of Nessie. Elisa politely declined and found a payphone, placing an international call to Matt – only to get his answering machine. She attempted to leave a message telling him she and Goliath were okay, asking him to get word to her parents, Captain Chavez, and "all my friends in Brooklyn" – however, his answering machine's tape was full and, unbeknownst to her, no new message was recorded. Elisa and her friends re-boarded the Skiff to return to Avalon as the nearby boat took tourists on a midnight charter. But the skiff and the tour boat were soon hit by a couple of large objects (which Elisa first tried to dismiss as a show). The skiff suddenly capsized and while Elisa quickly surfaced, Angela did not. They searched for Angela until daybreak, and Elisa promised to keep searching throughout the day. In town, she spotted members of the "Xanatos Goon Squad", stocking up on supplies. Hiding in the back of their jeep, she discovered the location of their headquarters in the ruins of an old castle. That night, she brought Goliath and Bronx back to investigate, but they were spotted by security, captured, and imprisoned by Sevarius – who was holding Angela captive and planned to use her to capture Big Daddy and re-capture Nessie. Freeing themselves from captivity, they succeeded in capturing Bruno and used him to commandeer Xanatos's minisub. Rescuing Angela, they helped save the Loch Ness monsters and watched as the larger submarine sank into the depths of the loch. While Bruno would later warn them that they've not seen the last of Sevarius, Elisa took pride in a job well done keeping the Loch Ness Monsters secret. ("Monsters")
Elisa wondered where they were once more as the skiff emerged from the mists just as a speedboat rushed by. Goliath recognized Halcyon Renard on board, believing he could help send them home. After Goliath departed, Elisa advised Angela and Bronx to wait atop a tower at Charles Bridge while she found out where they were. Making her way through the city, she bumped into Max Loew, who identified her as an American and informed her that New York was a long way from Prague. When Loew knocked on the door of Altneuschul and entered, Elisa knocked afterwards but was not let in – despite only looking for a payphone. As she made her way back to Charles Bridge, she heard gunfire coming from Altneuschul and was joined by Bronx as they made their way back, while Goliath and Elisa attacked a hovercraft that was invading the synagogue. Upon entering and making their way upstairs, where Loew was attending to Janus, Elisa spotted Goliath shot out of the sky and rescued by Angela. Max Loew explained to them the legend of the Golem and that it had been stolen by Tomas Brod before they could awaken it to fight Brod and his criminal mob. Realizing that Brod was working with Renard, Goliath departed to confront him. While Max lamented his failure to keep the Golem, Elisa assured him that the Golem needed him as much as he needed it. Soon after, the Golem – possessed by Halcyon Renard – attacked the synagogue to destroy any books that might contain a spell capable of banishing him from the clay. When Angela confronted Renard and was swept aside, Elisa accused him of enjoying the pain he was inflicting. Upon realizing he was violating his own integrity, Renard attempted to flee before Goliath helped talk him down and into relinquishing the Golem. Goliath, Elisa, Angela, and Bronx then joined Loew and the Golem to confront Brod and his men at Konrock, a nearby construction site, where the criminals were swiftly defeated. Goliath complimented Loew, telling him that Prague was in capable hands, while Elisa assured him that he would soon be used to the weirdness. Once the dust had settled, Renard offered to transfer them all back to New York, but Goliath declined – having realized that the hand of fate had guided him to every destination on his journey and that he must see it through. Goliath then told Elisa he would understand if she chose to return with Renard, but she chose to stay at his side, saying they would be lost without her. They boarded the skiff again, no longer to return home, but on a quest. ("Golem")
Elisa realized the next day they had arrived in Paris right away and, looking back at the sleeping gargoyles, sighed that Goliath was not awake to enjoy "the most romantic city in the world" with her. [9][10] Leaving the skiff docked on the Seine, she decided to go sightseeing. Spotting a payphone, she attempted to place a call to her parents when she saw Macbeth and Demona (in her human form) strolling down the Champs-Élysées. Her call forgotten, she followed the two of them to Macbeth's château on the Left Bank, and then proceeded to follow Demona to Notre Dame Cathedral, where she lost her in a crowd. Buying a newspaper, she returned to the skiff after sundown and filled Goliath in on what she had seen and the whereabouts of the two villains. Having read about the "Monster of Notre Dame", she believed that was where Demona could be found. They boarded the skiff and made their way to the cathedral, where Angela addressed Goliath as "father", much to his discomfort. Once they disembarked, Goliath pulled Elisa aside and confessed his concern that Angela dwelled too much on her parentage, and that he preferred to keep her away from Demona. Elisa told him that she sympathized, but before she could finish her thought, Goliath asked Angela to stay and protect Elisa from Demona. Elisa was unhappy about this, but reluctantly went along with it. Not long after, spotting the battle atop the cathedral, Angela advised Elisa to stay in the shadows and left to help Goliath – returning shortly afterward, upset by what she had witnessed. Goliath later returned, and they bitterly left the cathedral as he filled them in. Thailog's presence confused Elisa; Demona's apparent liaison with Macbeth was making less sense. Angela confronted Goliath about having once been in love with Demona, but the Sun rose before the situation could be resolved. Elisa departed to figure out the angle. Sitting at a café, she deduced that Macbeth was in the dark and that if neither he nor Demona remembered what had happened while under the control of the Weird Sisters' spell, then neither would remember Avalon, nor would Macbeth remember that Demona transformed into a human during the day. Elisa returned to the skiff in time for the gargoyles to awaken, and they headed for Macbeth's château. They arrived to find Thailog on the roof, eagerly listening to Demona and Macbeth's battle within. The clone explained his plan: since Demona had just married Macbeth, which meant that if both of them died, then everything would legally revert to him – her business partner. As the gargoyles battled Thailog, Elisa entered the château and attempted to talk Demona and Macbeth out of their fight, telling them that Thailog was manipulating them – but neither wanted to hear it. After Demona disarmed Macbeth and was prepared to finish him, Elisa commandeered one of Macbeth's weapons and shot Demona, temporarily killing her. Goliath entered and told Macbeth to thank Elisa for saving his life – even taking the time to remind Macbeth that this experience had shown him he was still capable of love. As the gargoyle continued to advise Macbeth to search for that love, he and Elisa smiled knowingly at one another. But Demona soon recovered and departed with Thailog, while Elisa expressed disbelief that Demona could still believe Thailog cared for her. Upon returning to the skiff, Angela asked if Demona was her biological mother. When Goliath refused to answer, Angela turned to Elisa – who reluctantly confirmed Angela's suspicions. ("Sanctuary")
A day later, the World Travelers arrived on the River Thames, and realizing they were in London, Elisa was excited – proclaiming that she had always wanted to visit. [11] But Goliath reminded her that Avalon had sent them there for a reason. Angela, looking elsewhere, spotted their first clue: an unusual war memorial depicting statues of two gargoyles – one that looked just like Goliath. Elisa went in for a closer look and read the plaque: "In commemoration of their courage at the Battle of Britain." A local cabbie interrupted her and began reminiscing about the air raids of the Blitz as if they were yesterday. She asked if gargoyles had fought in the war, and the cabbie shared that people told stories of "gremlins and the like". He asked Elisa if she was interested in this sort of thing, and Elisa admitted the legends intrigued her. He then mentioned that there was a shop in Soho she might be keen on visiting. Shouting so that her friends could hear, Elisa asked the cabbie if he could take her to the shop. They soon arrived, and she apologized for only having American money on her. Before she could enter the shop, four street thugs approached and surrounded her. But before they could lay a hand on her, the gargoyles emerged and helped chase them off. Hearing the commotion from within the shop, two robed shopkeepers stepped outside, the unicorn-faced one remarking, "I don’t believe it – you’ve come back!" Angela instantly recognized them as gargoyles. The lion-faced shopkeeper was more agitated, saying that he thought Goliath had died with someone named Griff, and all but accused Goliath of villainous actions. Elisa reminded everyone that they should take their conversation inside. Once inside, Una insisted that she had previously met Goliath in 1940 during the Battle of Britain and that he had led their friend, Griff, to his death. Goliath attempted to explain that in 1940 he had still been magically frozen in stone hibernation in Scotland. Leo accused him of lying and attacked. Elisa asked Una to stop the quarrel, and Una grabbed a spell book and put them all to sleep. Elisa, Angela, and Bronx later awakened bound by chains in the shop's cellar, with Una and Leo gloating that Goliath had shown his true colors and abandoned them as he once "abandoned" Griff – using sorcery to disappear in a ball of fire. Elisa realized this was the Phoenix Gate and attempted to tell them that Goliath must have gone back in time to save their friend. Leo realized that they had become embittered by their own guilt for not fighting the Nazis with Griff and released their captives. Elisa took sympathy on them and reminded them that horrible things happened during wartime. But Goliath soon returned slightly injured with Griff and reunited the three gargoyles. Out on the skiff, Goliath told his story, but Elisa asked him to explain it once more – confused by the mechanics of the time loop. They opt to rest for the day in London, to allow Goliath's injury to heal. ("M.I.A.") [12]
Their next destination had another recognizeable landmark for the detective. Upon spotting the Sphinx, Elisa told Angela they were in Egypt. As they approached the monument, they saw a flying robot land before the monolith and enter. Goliath identified the robot as Coyote, and Elisa guessed that Xanatos had upgraded it, making it more dangerous than ever. They entered the Sphinx, prepared to confront the Pack. During the skirmish, Elisa saved Goliath's life from a particle beam fired by Coyote, but the robot knocked her unconscious – the Pack had won this round. Bound to a gigantic pillar, the travelers came to as their captor, the Emir, demanded that the captured Anubis restore his son to life. When Anubis refused, the Emir threatened to use the Scroll of Thoth to become the Avatar of the Death God. The travelers struggled against their bonds, nearly bringing down the temple when Wolf, Hyena, and Coyote returned – only for the Emir to order them taken out and disposed of. The Pack marched the travelers into a burial chamber. A lantern was soon knocked, thanks to Elisa's quick thinking, to provide the proper distraction to escape their death sentence. Elisa successfully speared Coyote before they returned to the antechamber – just in time to witness Jackal become the Avatar of Anubis. Jackal used his newfound power to age the travelers, Elisa included, before preparing to end all life on Earth. But the gargoyles and the Emir turned the tables on Jackal, allowing the Emir to become the Avatar. The Emir restored their youth and destroyed the temple so that it would never be accessed again. In the aftermath, when Elisa asked how they had managed to attack Jackal, Goliath explained that gargoyles aged at half the speed of humans. Elisa wondered about the Emir's fate, and Goliath could only hope that he was with his son at rest. ("Grief")
Days later, Elisa was unfamiliar with their latest destination, and but wondered aloud if they should be expecting vampires or Sherlock Holmes. [13][14] Suddenly, an eerie feminine voice could be heard singing, which brought intense pain for the four travelers. Goliath took Elisa into his arms as they attempted to flee, but they all crashed into a bog and sank out of sight. Elisa awoke in a gigantic underground burial chamber with the gargoyles as statues and waited until sunset to inform them that she still didn’t know where they were or what was going on. Soon after, their host arrived – the Banshee. Goliath deduced that they were in Ireland, which the Banshee confirmed. But the Banshee had no intention of answering any of their questions, as she had her own. Smelling the scent of Avalon's magic all about them, the Banshee declared them to be agents of Oberon sent to bring her back to Avalon. Elisa tried to convince the Banshee that they had never met Oberon, but the Banshee didn’t believe her. She then used her voice to inflict pain on them until they told her what Oberon planned for her. The musical torture caused Elisa even more pain than the gargoyles. The interrogation would have continued had the Banshee not been distracted by the howling of Bronx outside the cairn. The following night, Elisa, Goliath, and Angela were freed from their captivity by the battle between the Banshee and Cu Chullain. The Banshee was soon defeated, and they wished Rory Dugan luck as Ireland's newly reincarnated hero before departing for Avalon. ("The Hound of Ulster")
Realizing that they wouldn't be sent to Manhattan anytime soon, Elisa and the others elect to spend the next few days on Avalon, in which she, Goliath, and Bronx become better acquainted with the Avalon Clan. [15]
As they sailed out of the mists once more, Elisa saw a kangaroo and deduced that unless they were in a zoo, that they were now in Australia. They stepped onto land and soon spotted a grey, metallic liquid erupting from ground. They just narrowly avoided being consumed by the anomaly before it receded. Determined to find out what it was, they began their investigation and soon encountered Dingo. When Angela asked who Dingo was, Elisa warned the female gargoyle that Dingo was not one of the good guys. As Goliath grappled with the former member of the Pack, the grey goo returned and nearly consumed Elisa before the detective was saved by Angela. Dingo soon helped them save Angela from the grey goo which bought him a modicum of trust after Elisa suspected that Dingo knew more about the grey goo than he was letting on. Dingo used his armor's helmet to zoom in on the grey goo and discover it was composed of nanites, Elisa donned the helmet herself and confirmed this. They soon approached Dingo's Shaman to plan their next move and were later joined by the creators of the grey goo or the Matrix as they called it, Fox and Anastasia Renard. After Goliath and Dingo's first attempt to neutralize the Matrix failed, Elisa suggested evacuation but Fox warned there was no where to run. With the help of the Shaman, Dingo and Goliath entered the Dreamtime and talked the Matrix towards a different path to create order. Elisa was present as Dingo and the Matrix joined to become a new hero for Australia. ("Walkabout")
Weeks later, the skiff emerged on river rapids before going over a waterfall. [16][17] After recovering the skiff and coming ashore, Elisa recognized the region as Nigeria and shared with Goliath, Angela, and Bronx her mother's ancestry as well as a childhood visit to the country. Shortly after, the travelers were horrified to discover the remains of a panther which had been skinned, and Elisa educated the others of the practices and crimes of poachers. They soon came upon a nearby village where, unexpectedly, Diane Maza – who was visiting as a storyteller – was busy regaling the children with the Tale of the Panther Queen. After the story concluded, Elisa stepped out of the shadows to reunite with her mother, who greeted her with a warm embrace before demanding to know why she disappeared. Though initially evasive about the circumstances of her disappearance, the village was soon invaded by Tea Gora and two poachers – who intended to kill the Ceremonial Panther and the witnesses. But Fara Maku revealed himself to be a werepanther before he was promptly shot by Tea. As Tea chased him into the jungle, Goliath, Angela, and Bronx intervened and took out the poachers. After the commotion, Elisa introduced Diane to the gargoyles, firmly rejecting the idea that they were monsters. They soon took off after Tea and Fara Maku, joined by Diane who was in no mood to let Elisa out of her sight. Throughout their pursuit, they discovered that Tea was also a werepanther and tracked both weres to the ruins of Kara Digi. Deciding to split into two camps, Elisa accompanied Angela and Bronx. Angela, desperate to connect with Goliath as his daughter was confused as to why Elisa wouldn't share more with Diane and, ultimately, Elisa began to feel ashamed of her behavior. They soon encountered Anansi and drove the trickster off, foiling his plans to force them to act as his hunters. In the aftermath of the confrontation, Elisa acknowledged that she should have been more honest with her mother. As the gargoyles entered stone sleep at sunrise, Elisa remained behind with Diane, choosing to spend their remaining time together. Elisa began to share the full truth of her life and reaffirmed their bond as daughter and mother. ("Mark of the Panther")
As the mists cleared for their next destination, Elisa began to shiver in the frigid temperatures as the skiff struck ice. While Angela marveled at the snow and frozen landscape, Elisa struggled to stay warm when an old man in a cloak of stars appeared and attempted to barter for her life, offering a parka in exchange for the Eye of Odin. Before Goliath could respond, Elisa pleaded with him not to accept the trade, warning that the Eye was too dangerous. The man vanished into the snow, ominously promising they would regret their refusal, even if Elisa would not live to see it. Feeling guilt over his perceived failure to protect her, Goliath wrapped Elisa in his wings to keep her warm. Soon after, they spotted snow-covered roads and, while remaining hidden, prevented a jeep from skidding off a cliff. The driver, Erik Sturluson, and his son Gunther discovered the freezing Elisa and invited her into their vehicle, wrapping her in a blanket before taking her to their farm. There, Gunther expressed skepticism about Elisa's claim that she was a lost tourist, questioning why she lacked proper winter clothing. Moments later, the wall of the house exploded as the old man returned astride a great steed, capturing Elisa and revealing himself to the gargoyles as Odin, demanding the Eye in exchange for her life. Goliath instead donned the Eye himself and, after a brief pursuit, succeeded in rescuing Elisa. After sunrise, as Goliath basked in the Sun's warmth, Elisa urged him to remove the Eye, insisting it was safe to do so. Goliath refused, however, claiming he needed its power to protect them. Elisa then brought Erik and Gunther up to date when Goliath appeared, urging them to seek shelter where he could better protect them from Odin; Erik suggested a cave to the north. During the journey, Elisa began voicing concern over Goliath's increasingly aggressive behavior, particularly as he spoke to the Sturlusons about protection. After Angela witnessed Goliath creating violent storms, Elisa confronted him, only for Goliath to patronizingly pat her head and declare that the Eye made him a better protector. When Odin later freed Elisa and Angela, Elisa directly challenged Goliath, bluntly telling him he had become a monster, comparing him to Fox and the Archmage. In response, Goliath withdrew his protection and unleashed his wrath, trapping them in a closing fissure. Elisa and Bronx escaped, and although Goliath reached for Angela, she deliberately did not reach back, pretending to need help and calling out to him. Realizing what he had become, Goliath pulled Angela free and tore the Eye from his face. Elisa praised Angela for the risk she took, admitting she wished she had thought of it herself. Back at the cave, all were relieved when Goliath was himself once more. Elisa was present as Goliath apologized to Odin, where the god acknowledged the insight the Eye gifted everyone that night. ("Eye of the Storm")
After a day spent in Norway, the travelers continued their odyssey once more. [18] As the skiff emerged from the mists, it passed through a shimmering field, and landed on the island. When Elisa spotted hi-tech flying vehicles circling overhead, she urged the gargoyles to hide, unsure how the locals would react to them. The locals, however, were not humans but New Olympians, and Elisa was promptly arrested by Taurus for trespassing on New Olympus – where gargoyles were welcome, but humans were forbidden. Elisa, who was kept in chains, was taken to the Senate-House and placed on trial before Boreas, the leader of the New Olympians. The New Olympians in attendance openly expressed their hatred toward Elisa simply for being human. Boreas explained that their ancestors had settled on New Olympus centuries earlier to escape persecution. While Ekidna, Talos, and Taurus voiced their opinions, Boreas ultimately judged that he did not believe Elisa intended harm. However, he ruled that she could not leave New Olympus, hoping that in time she would come to see the island as her home. Goliath and Angela were furious at the decision, but Elisa was willing to at least explore the island during her confinement. Before she could do so, she was attacked by a group of New Olympians seeking to punish the human themselves. Taurus broke up the assault and placed Elisa under arrest again, declaring that while she had not started the fight, she had caused it. Elisa was taken to the New Olympian Jail, where she passed the cell of the imprisoned villain Proteus, who had previously impersonated Taurus's father, the former security chief whom Proteus had murdered. Elisa told Taurus that her own father had also been a police officer, briefly finding common ground with him. Taurus unfortunately appeared uninterested and left to disperse a riot forming outside Elisa's cell. Proteus attempted to make small talk with Elisa, but she remained guarded. Nevertheless, Proteus's probing reveals to the shapeshifter that Elisa possessed a means of leaving the island. Later, Elisa was awakened by what appeared to be Goliath growling. Running to her cell door, she saw Goliath inside Proteus's cell, trying to warn her that the Goliath standing before her was actually Proteus in disguise. Elisa did not believe him, and she escaped with the impostor. When the Sun rose and "Goliath" did not turn to stone, Elisa realized she was traveling with Proteus. He revealed his plan to destroy the Columnadium, an act that would annihilate the entire island, while sending Elisa back to the Skiff. Elisa attempted to warn Helios, but he refused to listen, forcing her to knock him unconscious and steal his chariot. She then deliberately taunted Taurus and led him to the Columnadium. There, Taurus confronted and defeated Proteus, recapturing him before he could carry out his plan. Impressed that Elisa chose to save New Olympus rather than escape, Taurus formed a bond of friendship with her. Elisa was officially freed and granted permission to leave New Olympus. ("The New Olympians")
Departing Avalon once again, the Skiff exited the mists and emerged in the middle of a rainforest. Feeling the intense humidity, Elisa removed her jacket as the travelers went ashore. They soon spotted two unfamiliar gargoyles battling human construction workers. Elisa was startled by their presence, but Goliath explained that gargoyle clans had once existed all over the world. Jackal and Hyena soon arrived and used tasers to incapacitate the two gargoyles, prompting Goliath, Angela, and Bronx to come to their defense. During the skirmish, the travelers learned they were in Guatemala, and Elisa personally stopped one of the construction workers from firing on the gargoyles. After Goliath temporarily drove off the cybernetic twins, the travelers introduced themselves to the gargoyles, who in turn identified themselves as Zafiro and Obsidiana. The two invited them back to their home at the Mayan Pyramid. On the way, the Mayan gargoyles explained that they protected the surrounding forest, which they called "The Green". Upon arriving at the pyramid, the travelers met Jade and Turquesa and learned about the Mayan Sun Amulet and their pendants, which allowed the Mayan gargoyles to avoid stone sleep. After sunrise, Elisa joined Zafiro on patrol to explore more of the forest. When Zafiro frightened away farmers cutting down a small number of trees, Elisa protested on their behalf, arguing that it was not the same as large-scale deforestation. Zafiro countered that there was no such thing as "just a few trees". They returned to the pyramid after sunset, where Goliath and Angela agreed to join the Mayan gargoyles in defending the Green. Elisa objected, insisting that they first determine who legally owned the land. Turquesa dismissed Elisa's argument, calling human laws misguided. As a police officer sworn to uphold the law, Elisa refused to participate and urged Goliath not to join either. Goliath disagreed and sided with the Mayan Clan. As sunrise approached, Jackal arrived at the pyramid and set it ablaze. Elisa helped the gargoyles extinguish the fire as the Sun rose. She was soon knocked unconscious by Jackal, who prepared to destroy the sleeping gargoyles, but he was defeated by the Mayan gargoyles and Bronx, who was wearing Obsidiana's pendant. Elisa returned the pendant to Obsidiana, and while the Mayan gargoyles were uncertain how to defend the Green against future threats, Elisa proposed a solution. That evening, they tied a raft to the skiff, allowing Jade and Turquesa to transport plant samples to Avalon, where they could grow and thrive. Elisa hoped that one day humanity would truly awaken to the dangers facing the Green. ("The Green")
After spending the Avalonian day helping plant the samples on Avalon while Jade and Turquesa slept, Elisa was exhausted by the time she boarded the Skiff after sunset. [19][20] She was fast asleep when it emerged from the mists and came ashore at Easter Island, unaware that Goliath gently laid her down to rest at the base of one of the island's monoliths. Elisa was abruptly awakened when Bronx was zapped by the alien Nokkar. She pleaded with him, insisting the gargoyles were her friends. Believing she had been brainwashed by agents of the Space-Spawn, Nokkar fired a beam at her with the intention to undo any alien mind control, but the alien knew that a temporary erasure of her memories was a side-effect. Disoriented and alone, Elisa wandered until she was found by Lydia Duane and Arthur Morwood-Smyth. Concerned for her well-being, the two archaeologists brought her back to their hotel and contacted Dr. Arnada for assistance. Using her wallet for identification, they determined who she was. Although Arnada found no physical cause for her condition, he recommended she be sent to Honolulu to be examined by his neurologist brother. Goliath (who had been tracking her down) suddenly entered to retrieve Elisa. With no memory of him, Elisa drew her gun in fear and even pulled the trigger, unaware that she had been out of bullets for weeks. Goliath gathered her into his arms and carried her away despite her terror. After landing, he attempted to remind her of her life and their friendship, though Elisa responded with sarcasm, referring to him as "Tiny". Goliath urged her to trust her instincts, and she began to waver. Nokkar soon reappeared and captured Goliath. He formally introduced himself to Elisa and explained his belief that she had been brainwashed, assuring her that her memories would eventually return. He brought her aboard his ship and told her of his mission to protect Earth from the Space-Spawn, as well as how he had once befriended the island's native people. The captive Goliath, Angela, and Bronx all pleaded with Elisa to remember them. Though she could not, her instincts prevented her from allowing Nokkar to execute them. She used Nokkar's technology to free the gargoyles, and they escaped off the ship. Even then, her memories had not returned. When Nokkar emerged, prepared to fire on them, he ordered Elisa to step aside. Guided by instinct rather than memory, she chose to stand with the gargoyles, believing them to be her friends. Recognizing that such loyalty could not be the result of mind control, Nokkar relented. Elisa and the gargoyles boarded the skiff, and she expressed admiration for both Nokkar's sense of duty and the gargoyles' steadfastness. The travelers depart just before sunrise, but nevertheless Goliath, Angela, and Bronx are in stone hibernation upon their arrival on Avalon, where it was already night. A few hours would pass on the mystical island before they awaken once more. During this time, Elisa's memories return. ("Sentinel") [21]
Upon arriving at their destination, Elisa quickly realized they were in Japan after spotting the Temple of Ishimura. Bronx caught a scent and eagerly bounded into the village of Ishimura, where the travelers met Kai and the Ishimura Clan. Elisa changed into a kimono and was given a tour of the temple. She learned about the clan's history, their long-standing relationship with the local humans, and how they had taught Bushido for generations. After sunrise, Elisa remarked that Ishimura was her kind of town. She stepped back inside the temple shortly before it was attacked. The human inhabitants were knocked unconscious by masked assailants. Elisa managed to subdue three of them before she herself was incapacitated by a tranquilizer dart fired by Taro. Elisa awoke hours later to discover that the Ishimura Clan, along with Goliath, Angela, and Bronx, had been abducted. After sunset, back in her own clothes, she joined forces with the local constable, Hiroshi, who was reluctant to believe that Taro was responsible. Using a computer to access local property records, they discovered that Taro had purchased a large tract of land. Hiroshi recalled seeing a dome under construction there. Hiroshi acquired a jeep, and together they drove to the site. Outside the dome, they encountered a group of reporters who had been promised that something extraordinary would occur at sunrise. Elisa rigged the jeep to crash through the dome's gates. Inside, they discovered Taro's Gargoyle Theme Park, where an internal security system was firing on the captive gargoyles. They located the control room and freed Goliath, Angela, and Bronx from a dungeon. Elisa warned Goliath that reporters were waiting outside and could expose them on live television. Elisa was present when Yama defeated Taro and urged the gargoyles to leave. After their departure, the press finally entered, and Taro attempted to convince them that the gargoyles were real, despite no proof present. Elisa played along by enthusiastically claiming that the gargoyles were a hundred feet tall, could turn invisible, and that thousands of them surrounded the reporters at that very moment, further foiling what little credibility Taro had left. After returning to Ishimura, Elisa boarded the skiff alongside her sleeping companions, grateful to have found a place where gargoyles and humans could truly trust one another. They depart Ishimura after sunrise. ("Bushido")
It is already night on Avalon when the travelers arrive, and Goliath, Angela, and Bronx wake up before long. [22] Departing once more, the skiff emerged in the middle of an Olympic-size swimming pool. Elisa quickly realized that Avalon sent them to Flagstaff University, where her younger sister Beth was a student. Fearing for her sister's safety, Elisa led the others straight to Beth's apartment. After sunrise, Beth and Peter returned – having spent the previous night in jail. Elisa greeted them warmly and promised to introduce them to her friends at sunset. When she asked about their arrest, Peter explained that Xanatos had them charged for trespassing. That evening, Elisa introduced Beth and Peter to the gargoyles, and they agreed to investigate what Xanatos was planning. As the gargoyles departed to scout ahead, Beth remarked that they were beautiful but "so alien". Elisa replied wistfully that, "After a while, all you notice is the beauty." At Xanatos's construction site, they subdue the supposed security guard that had previously allowed Peter and Beth to enter the premises. Elisa and Beth were stunned to see that he appeared to be a carbon copy of a much younger Peter Maza. Though he seemed to support Xanatos, the man dropped hints that Xanatos intended to destroy a soil carving dedicated to the Kachina Coyote. While Peter failed to notice, Elisa recognized that the man was deliberately provoking him. The mysterious figure eventually escaped, warning that Xanatos was about to kill Goliath and Angela. Elisa, Peter, Beth, and Bronx infiltrated the site and confronted Xanatos in his exo-frame. After freeing Goliath and Angela, they saw Xanatos order Coyote 4.0 to capture the supposed security guard. On their way to report Xanatos's actions to the Tribal Police, Beth suggested that the guard was actually Coyote the Trickster, a claim Peter dismissed. When they arrived, the Tribal Police were wearing Kachina masks and performing the Dance of the Coyote. The Coyote Dancer revealed himself as the same "security guard", only to be captured by Coyote 4.0. Determined to rescue the Kachina, Elisa, Beth, and the gargoyles returned to the construction site, despite Peter's refusal to join them. Ultimately, Peter donned the Coyote costume himself, confusing Coyote 4.0 long enough for the Trickster to be freed. In the ensuing chaos, the robot and the construction site were destroyed, and Xanatos withdrew. Afterward, the Mazas visited the grave of Carlos Maza to pay their respects. Elisa reassured her grieving father that, despite their differences, Carlos likely knew that Peter had always loved and respected him. ("Cloud Fathers")
The four travelers return to Avalon and depart immediately to avoid the imminent dawn on the island. [23] The skiff emerged from the mists once more, and Elisa immediately noted that wherever they were, it was even hotter than the rainforest. Moments later, they realized the Skiff had landed in a massive cauldron of boiling water inside what appeared to be a laundry room. When they opened the door, they were met with freezing temperatures and heavy snowfall. Elisa briefly suggested returning to the Skiff in case Avalon intended to send them somewhere warmer—such as Hawaii—but Goliath insisted they press on. They wrapped themselves in furs before venturing out into the elements. They were soon spotted by a young monk, Sangpo, who mistook Goliath for a Yeti and alerted the archers of the monastery. The gargoyles took to the air to evade the arrows, but Elisa quickly began to succumb to the bitter cold. They sought shelter in a nearby cave, where they noticed a burning torch mounted on the wall. The cave’s inhabitant captured Bronx, prompting Goliath and Angela to attack. In the struggle, they tore away the creature’s furs, revealing Coldstone. Goliath warmly greeted his rookery brother, and Master Dawa soon arrived with Sango, explaining that he had been helping Coldstone master his inner turmoil. Believing that Avalon had brought them to reunite Coldstone with the Clan, Angela told him about Gabriel and the surviving eggs. However, fearing what the “Iago” persona within him might do, Coldstone refused to return. He then feigned being overtaken by “Iago,” pretending to threaten Elisa before subduing the travelers. They later awoke to find themselves back aboard the Skiff in Shambahla. ("Reunion")
As the Skiff came ashore on Avalon and they were greeted by Boudicca, Gabriel, Guardian, and Princess Katharine, Elisa lamented that every time they sailed into the mist she hoped to see the Brooklyn Bridge or Lady Liberty and while Katharine assured Elisa that she always had Avalon to come home to, Elisa insisted that Avalon was neither her home or Goliath's.But the conversation was interrupted by the arrival of Oberon and Titania - returned to Avalon after a thousand and one years. Oberon was immediately hostile and ordered the "invaders" to evacuate his kingdom at once. Elisa drew her gun which gave Oberon a moment of pause. After the altercation, Titania provided a bargain for Avalon and the lives of the mortals who now resided there. After Goliath, Gabriel, Angela, and Oberon left to do battle, Elisa observed that Oberon had prevously flinched at the sight of her weapon despite her bluff since she had been out of bullets fo weeks - figuring that to deal with Oberon, they'd need to be silver bullets. But Katharine corrected Elisa, informing the detective that Oberon and his Children were vulnerable to cold iron. Their course of action was clear, use whatever iron they had to forge a weapon. As they proceeded to forge an Iron Bell, Ophelia asked what gave them the right to use it, presenting the fact that Oberon was Avalon's rightful monarch and he was not an outside aggressor like the Archmage. Elisa posited that Oberon abandoned the island a thousand years ago and as far as she was concerned, he had given up his rights to the place. After Oberon was subdued by the bell, Elisa told Goliath that it was Titania herself that gave them the clue to forge the bell in the first place. Oberon welcomed them all to stay on Avalon and appointed Goliath and his clan as Avalon's Honor Guard. The travellers returned to the skiff to continue their own quest. ("Ill Met By Moonlight")After departing Avalon one last time, Goliath lamented that Avalon had yet to send them home, which Elisa agreed with. Goliath soon passed out and fell off the skiff until Elisa and Angela brought him back aboard and woke him up. Goliath insisted they had found Manhattan but it was all wrong - Elisa was confused when Goliath spoke of an attempted deception by Puck and asked him to explain himself after Goliath threw the Phoenix Gate into the timestream. But Goliath was now more determined than ever to get home. ("Future Tense")
Back In Manhattan
Upon returning to Manhattan, the travelers first stopped at the Clock Tower. Broadway exuberantly lifted Elisa into his arms and spun her around before reuniting her with Cagney, whom the Trio and Hudson had cared for during the World Tour. Goliath then escorted Elisa back to her loft, where she expressed relief at finally being home. He assured her that they would not have survived their odyssey without her and promised that both he and the clan would always stand by her. Goliath began to speak about his feelings, prepared to address them openly, but Elisa gently placed her hand over his lips to stop him. It was a conversation she was not yet emotionally ready to have. As rain began to pour down, Elisa suggested he return home before the storm worsened, the rain on her face concealing her own tears. When Oberon put the entire city to sleep, Elisa fell asleep on her couch. On the Voices from the Eyrie podcast, Greg Weisman posited that Elisa’s actions in this moment may have “taken her out of the clan,” potentially stripping her of any immunity to Oberon’s magic when he later placed the entire city under a sleeping spell. He also suggested that Oberon may simply have chosen not to let his magic affect gargoyles at all. [24] ("The Gathering" Part One)
While Elisa told Matt Bluestone plenty about the odyssey, she did not share everything with him (in particular, their time on New Olympus). [25]
Although Captain Chavez was not pleased with Elisa’s six-month absence, it ultimately placed Elisa in an ideal position to infiltrate Tomas Brod’s gang under the alias Salli Robertson as tensions escalated between Brod and the imprisoned Tony Dracon. Around this time, Demona was captured by Goliath, Angela, and Brooklyn and imprisoned in the Labyrinth. While accompanying the Manhattan Clan below and visiting her brother, Elisa asked Goliath whether he fully understood the implications of his commitment to stand watch over the prisoners (Demona and Fang) at night. During these events, Elisa was bitten by a mosquito that was, unbeknownst to her, a Micro-Electric Mosquito. The device extracted a sample of her DNA and returned it to Nightstone Unlimited. There, under Thailog’s orders, Sevarius combined Elisa’s DNA with Demona’s to create the clone later known as Delilah. ("Turf", "The Reckoning")
After gaining Brod’s trust, “Salli” proposed a raid on the Dracon Chop Shop that Brod and his men would carry out, intending for both Brod’s gang and Dracon’s men to be apprehended when the police arrived and caught everyone in the act. Arriving aboard Brod’s hovercraft, “Salli” took point but was knocked unconscious after narrowly avoiding a gunshot from one of Dracon’s men. She regained consciousness on the hovercraft, where Brod expressed frustration about the police showing up. Thinking quickly, “Salli” suggested someone must have tipped them off. Since Jack Dane and the men Brod had brought from Prague were considered trustworthy, she sarcastically implied that she herself was the informant, which Brod dismissed with laughter. Elisa’s life was likely spared when Dane suggested that one of Dracon’s men had been careless and led the police to the warehouse. Matt arrived to bring Brod and his men in for questioning. While Brod was taken to be interrogated, “Salli” made her way to the Clock Tower, briefly startling Angela and the Trio before removing her wig and asking for their assistance in bringing down both gangs. Before leaving, Elisa asked Angela for advice regarding the Trio’s overeager advances, advising her in turn to be clear about how she expected to be treated. At Chavez’s office, Elisa was dismayed to learn that the evidence she had gathered was too weak to secure convictions. Having been unconscious during the raid, her testimony would be vulnerable to attack by any competent defense attorney. Chavez suggested pulling her out of the operation, but Elisa insisted on seeing it through. Chavez reluctantly agreed and “released” "Salli" along with Brod. After Brod's favorite restaurant was destroyed, Brod retaliated by targeting a train carrying Dracon’s weapons, only to fall into a trap set by Glasses before the gargoyles intervened. Brod then escalated further, planning to invade Rikers Island and personally kill Dracon. This placed Elisa in the position of having to protect her own nemesis. Her cover was blown during the confrontation, and she was nearly beaten to death before Angela and the Trio arrived, defeated the gangsters, and enabled Elisa to place them all under arrest. ("Turf")
Hunter's Moon
once again to go undercover in the New York subway while investigating a string of robberies. Waiting alone on a platform for a train, she was approached menacingly by Lawrence, Maurice, and Kurly. She quickly handed over her money, but the three men made it clear they were also interested in a “first date.” Before the situation could escalate further, a train arrived and Elisa slipped aboard just as the doors closed. The three thugs boarded from the next car and soon revealed their firearms, holding up the entire car and robbing the passengers of their money and valuables. As the train crossed a bridge, Goliath, Angela, Brooklyn, Lexington, and Broadway descended onto the train and quickly subdued two of the criminals. Goliath entered the car, but Lawrence managed to get the drop on him before Elisa intervened. Together they subdued the thug. Afterward, Elisa embraced Goliath, calling him her best friend, before the gargoyles departed. Later that morning, Chavez temporarily reassigned Elisa to the day shift so she could show a new transfer the ropes. Elisa’s protests quickly faded when she met Jason Conover and found herself immediately attracted to him. Taking Jason out on patrol, the two exchanged small talk and began getting to know one another. Their patrol soon led them to an explosion at Xanatos's East River Warehouse. Elisa and Jason confronted a gang of masked thieves, drawing their weapons, but two more criminals surprised them from behind. Demonstrating impressive skill, Jason managed to get both himself and Elisa out of the situation. The pair pursued the thieves’ van through the city and into Central Park, where they disabled the vehicle and arrested most of the gang. Afterward, Elisa and Jason flirted, and Jason invited her out for coffee. That night, Elisa told the gargoyles about Jason, and Goliath quickly noticed her attraction to him. Since Elisa would not be on duty that evening, she asked the gargoyles to keep watch over the East River warehouse as well as Xanatos's Chemical Plant on the Upper West Side, fearing that whoever had attempted to steal the D/I-7 might try again. ("Hunter's Moon" Part One)
Elisa’s fears were confirmed when she arrived at the Clock Tower that morning and found Angela gravely injured and suffocating. Elisa immediately performed CPR, saving the young gargoyle’s life. Goliath explained that they had been attacked at the warehouse by “three humans in black” known as the Hunters, while Brooklyn reported that Demona had struck Xanatos's Chemical Plant. After sunrise, Elisa and Jason went to investigate the chemical plant. Sensing that Elisa was troubled, Jason asked what was bothering her. Elisa confided that a very close friend of hers had been assaulted and nearly killed, and that they still did not know who was responsible. Jason responded that he carried a similar pain of his own. As the two looked into each other’s eyes, Elisa broke the moment by suggesting they return to work. Once separated from Jason, Elisa questioned Owen Burnett about Demona’s recent activities. Owen denied that Xanatos had any recent contact with her, but Elisa remained unconvinced and doubted that Xanatos felt any gratitude toward the gargoyles. After sunset, Elisa returned to the Clock Tower only to discover that the gargoyles had already departed. With her shift over, she headed for her car when Jason approached her, asking again about her injured friend. Elisa invited him back to her apartment for dinner. Once there, Cagney quickly took a liking to Jason. Their growing attraction culminated in a kiss—but unknown to Elisa, Goliath was watching from outside. Elisa pulled away, deciding that the kiss had been a mistake. Jason quickly deduced that there was someone else. Elisa initially denied it, then admitted that there was someone she cared deeply about but with whom a relationship would be impossible. Goliath quietly departed, and shortly afterward Jason left as well. Later that night, Elisa returned to the station just as the Hunters' Airship launched rockets at the Clock Tower, destroying it. One of the Hunters burst into the station on a sky-sled, seized Elisa, and carried her to safety. When Elisa removed the Hunter’s mask, she was shocked to see Jason’s face. Before she could react further, he tranquilized her, broke into her apartment, and left her there unconscious. ("Hunter's Moon" Part Two, "Hunter's Moon" Part Three)
Elisa visited Chavez in the hospital the following day with Matt after Jon Carter broadcast footage of the gargoyles fleeing the Clock Tower. In the broadcast, he revealed their existence to the world and falsely claimed that they had attacked the 23rd Precinct. During this time, Matt also revealed that Conover’s real name was Jason Canmore. Later that day, Elisa wandered through the ruins of the Clock Tower, gathering the Clan’s belongings. Jason appeared on his sky-sled and attempted to justify the Hunt, prompting Elisa to accuse him of being a monster. When she asked why the gargoyles were being hunted at all, Jason admitted that he did not know, but insisted that it no longer mattered and that it was too late to stop before fleeing. That night, after the Manhattan Clan took refuge in Elisa’s apartment, Elisa urged Goliath to allow the law to deal with the Hunters. Enraged, Goliath instead sought vengeance, even as the others pleaded with him to let the matter go. Refusing to listen, Goliath had Lexington use the Hunters’ homing beacon to locate them and ordered the rest of the Clan to remain behind. Elisa, however, asked Broadway to carry her after Goliath, and they arrived just as Goliath confronted the three Hunters. Elisa drew her gun on Jon Canmore, the youngest of the three, who lamented that he wished he could stop the conflict. As Jason and Goliath faced off, Elisa stepped between them, begging them both to stop, but neither would back down. During the struggle, Goliath knocked Jason off the dam, intending to kill him. Jason accidentally collided with Elisa as he fell, sending both of them over the edge. Goliath desperately tried to rescue Elisa, but she disappeared into the spillway below, leaving him devastated.
Jason survived the fall and saved Elisa’s life. Determined to end the violence, the two traveled by ambulance to Saint Damien's Cathedral. Elisa arrived just in time to stop Goliath from disemboweling Jon Canmore, telling him that Jason had saved her life. Jason admitted that he had been stubborn and that Jon had been right about the gargoyles not being their enemies. Jon, however, remained determined to destroy them. When he heard Brooklyn’s cries and remembered Demona’s plan to exterminate humanity, he panicked and fired at Goliath. Jason took the blast meant for the gargoyle and collapsed. Elisa assured Goliath that she and Robyn Canmore would take care of Jason and urged him to stop Demona. Jon, however, swore vengeance and fled. Elisa and Robyn arrived in time to witness Goliath risk his life to save humanity before Demona and the gargoyles escaped the scene. Later, Elisa visited Jason in the hospital, where they spoke about the paralysis he had suffered. Elisa promised to help him heal emotionally but made it clear that someone else would always come first, noting that Demona and Jon were still out there pursuing their vendetta against one another. Before sunrise, Elisa went to the Eyrie Building, where Xanatos assured her that the gargoyles were safe. After Goliath had saved both the world and Xanatos’s son, Xanatos explained that the least he could do was allow them to return to the castle. He insisted there were no tricks, no strings, and no hidden conditions. Elisa stepped out onto the tower and approached Goliath. The two finally admitted their feelings for one another. Elisa leapt into his arms and kissed the startled gargoyle, leaving him to turn to stone with a wide grin on his face as she welcomed him home. ("Hunter's Moon" Part Three)
Cold Feet and Committment
In the immediate aftermath of the gargoyles' revelation to the world, Goliath visited Elisa to seek comfort from her. Both were attacked by a vengeful John Castaway and almost killed in a confrontation at the damaged Clock Tower, but rescued by Vinnie's intervention. ("Nightwatch", "The Journey")
The following day, upon being asked out on a date by Morgan, Elisa visited Jason in the hospital, who told her he wanted her to be happy. Elisa, knowing she'd eventually want a normal life with children and that Goliath could never give this to her, broke up with him. She encouraged him to court Delilah while she accepted Morgan's invitation and brought him to the masque at the Eyrie Building. Upon seeing Delilah and how strongly she resembled Elisa (which Elisa already knew but had never actually seen), she realized she made a mistake, but was still not ready to face Goliath. Upon seeing Goliath lying at near death at the hands of Thailog, Elisa told him that she loved him. ("Invitation Only", "Masque", "Bash")
A few nights later, Goliath told her that he would not hold her to any words said when he was on the verge of death, and reminded her of the things he could not give her and her desire for a normal life. Elisa replied that "normalcy is so over-rated." Overjoyed, the two kissed. Since then, Elisa has considered Goliath to be her "boyfriend". ("The Rock", "A Little Crazy")
Her hatred for Xanatos bubbled to the surface again when her sister-in-law, Maggie the Cat was kidnapped prior to giving birth. Like the rest of them, she blamed Xanatos for the kidnapping and confronted the billionaire. But when Broadway guessed that Xanatos wasn't the perpetrator, Goliath stood by him and Elisa calmed down. She then participated in rescuing Maggie and Mary from Thailog and became an aunt when Maggie gave birth to Michael Peter Maza. ("Idyll or Nightmare", "Miracle Child")
Outed
After Goliath was captured by the Gargoyle Taskforce, Elisa was furious with Matt... who retorted that had he had tried to contact her to warn them but she was off on another solo act. When a hearing was called to determine whether Goliath was sentient and deserving of "human rights", he resisted his attorney, Tobe Crest calling Elisa as a witness, but once the hearing took place... Crest called her as his final witness. Crest questioned her about her history with Goliath and she revealed that she had been working with him to off the record for years, and when questioned about her relationship with the gargoyle under oath... she revealed – in court, on television, in front of the entire world – her love for Goliath and their romantic relationship. ("Render Unto Caesar", "Your Witness")
Under Margot's cross-examination, she admitted to keeping secrets and violating rules. Later that evening, Judge Roebling ruled in Goliath's favor with Travis Marshall and other members of the press revealing their interest in the relationship. But before he could go to Elisa, Goliath received word from Preston Vogel of Halcyon Renard's imminent passing and took to the air to be at his friend's side. ("Your Witness", "New Rules")
Elisa and Matt were then brought into the office of a very displeased Captain Chavez. Chavez demanded to know why Elisa had lied to her and kept these secrets for three years (and was not too pleased with Bluestone, either). Elisa admitted she had no excuse but an explanation. But Matt provided a solution. Shortly after this, Elisa extended Captain Chavez's offer to Goliath to join the Gargoyle Taskforce, which Goliath accepted. Elisa was then suspended from the force for four months without pay – she considered it a slap on the wrist. ("Young At Heart", "Cold Comfort")
Elisa accompanied Goliath to the Gathering of the Gargoyles Guild and encouraged him to speak to the audience as if he was speaking to her, which calmed his nerves when addressing them. While there, she engaged in a verbal joust with Antoinette Dracon whom she made it clear she did not trust, despite Broadway assuring Elisa that as far as Dracons go, Antoinette was "one of the good ones." Elisa then performed a citizens' arrest on an attempted mass-shooter. She later arrived at the Castle in time to hear Owen reveal to the clan Demona's theft of Puck's Flute and the existence of the Three New Keys to Power. Elisa, along with the rest of the clan, committed themselves to preventing Demona from acquiring the other keys. Several months passed and Elisa was reinstated in the NYPD. ("Questions", "Acquisitions")
Over the next few months, she and the Gargoyle Taskforce kept an eye out for the Rogue Gargoyle. She and Goliath even enjoyed a Halloween night in Greenwich Village where she finally threw hand-cuffs on John Castaway. But, in November 1997, tragedy struck the Manhattan Clan that she unwittingly had a hand in. It was only after hearing about Coldstone's betrayal that she recalled how an enhanced Demona visited the detective at the 23rd Precinct. Using the three Keys, Demona instructed her with the specific directions to subdue both Bronx and Fu-Dog in the Manhattan Clan's rookery. Tranquilizing the gargoyle beasts, she stole Egwardo and delivered the gargoyle egg to someone she never saw, who gave it to Demona. ("Trick-Or-Treat", "Unequivocal Success", "Queen of All She Surveys")
Future
Eventually, Goliath and Elisa will have a Commitment Ceremony of some sort (probably by 1999). [26][27] Further on down the road, they will adopt and raise a child together. It is from this adopted child that Nicholas Natsilane Maza will be descended. [28] By 2198, Elisa will be dead, but of what cause is unknown. Upon her death, the Manhattan Clan will give her a Wind Ceremony as a member of the Clan. [29]
Characteristics
Elisa is of mixed heritage, African American on her mother's side, and Native American (mostly, but not exclusively, Hopi) on her father's side, though she's a born and bred New Yorker. [30][31] She is tall and athletic as well as quick witted, and she can hold her own against almost any adversary, though she is often impulsive.
A stand-out moment of her quick thinking occurred when Broadway turned to stone when caught in midair at sunrise while fighting the robot double of Macbeth. With only a few seconds to save Broadway and obviously unable to catch him herself without being crushed, Elisa fired at the cable of a nearby crane to make it spill its cargo of crated rugs in order to create a soft landing for the gargoyle. The following night, Goliath praised her as a miracle for accomplishing such an astounding feat to save Broadway. ("The Price")
Elisa doesn't take anything at face value, and accepts the beauty within, which is one reason she accepted the gargoyles as quickly as she did. She's down to earth and skeptical of certain things before she sees them with her own eyes, despite all the strange happenings that have occurred in her life. She's kindhearted and strong-willed and, like the gargoyles, tends to put the needs of others before herself. Though she doesn't live with them, she is considered a member of the Manhattan Clan, both by herself and by the gargoyles. ("The Cage", "Bash")
However, Elisa does have her flaws as well. She's stubborn, and has acted selfishly when it came to telling trusted friends and family members about the gargoyles, wanting to keep them to herself. She tried for a long time to ignore her true feelings for Goliath, which caused heartbreak for both of them. Nevertheless, she always does the right thing in the end. Elisa is an extremely guarded woman in many ways. She's had to be. She's succeeded in a career that is traditionally male. It was she who always put the breaks on any romantic discussion that Goliath tried to initiate was her. She has trouble admitting her feelings, even to her mother. She's fairly secretive. [32]
The real problem that Elisa has to face in her friendship with the gargoyles is her feelings towards Goliath. Even during their first adventure together in Central Park, they began to be drawn towards each other, though it took a long while for them to realize it. Puck temporarily turning Elisa into a gargoyle for one night undoubtedly helped, for it brought the feelings Goliath didn't know he had for her to the surface. But when Elisa did realize how she felt about Goliath, it troubled her. Being in love with a gargoyle has raised some serious issues for her, issues that she does not wish to confront. So she carefully held back from discussing it with Goliath, for a long while. But their feelings for each other could not be forever held off. ("The Mirror", "Invitation Only")
Alongside being a close friend to the gargoyles, Elisa is also a highly able police detective. Her particular nemesis in her workday life is mob boss Tony Dracon, whose organized crime rackets she often is kept busy thwarting. Sometimes Elisa goes undercover for her work, such as when she posed as a crooked cop in order to gain Dracon's trust so that he would incriminate himself during his protection racket scheme. Sometimes Elisa goes undercover as "Salli". She used the alias to penetrate Tomas Brod's gang so as to bust his gang as well as Dracon's simultaneously. The gargoyles (particularly Goliath and Broadway) have helped her out on her cases on a few occasions, such as when Broadway eagerly joined her during the "Silver Falcon" case. ("Protection", "Turf", "The Silver Falcon")
After learning about Delilah, Elisa was, on the surface, accepting of the situation but deep down anxious enough to not bother meeting the gargoyle until her double date with Goliath (even though Delilah was living in the Labyrinth with Elisa's brother, Talon). ("Masque") [33] While Delilah is genetically Elisa's daughter, Elisa has yet to show any maternal or familial feelings towards her, despite the fact that it was Elisa who convinced Goliath to look upon Thailog as his son. [34]
Elisa is fond of Casablanca and, based on her Halloween costumes as Belle and Jasmine, is also a fan of Disney movies. ("City of Stone" Part One, "Eye of the Beholder", "Masque") Further, she is familiar with Spider-Man and Batman comic books. ("Mark of the Panther", "A Little Crazy").
Like her mother, Elisa hates spiders. ("Mark of the Panther")
Her badge number is 16123 and, as of "Phoenix", has not taken a life in the line of duty. ("Awakening: Part Three") [35]

Production Background
Voice Actor: Salli Richardson
Elisa's African American/Native American heritage is based on Salli Richardson's own background. Elisa's appearance was also partially drawn from Ms. Richardson.
Elisa went through various name changes in the early development of the show, and many of these names were later given to secondary characters. Her original name was "Morgan Reed" (which inspired the last name of Maggie Reed and the double name of Officer Morgan Morgan), after architect Julia Morgan. [36] Her forename was changed to "Elisa" for aesthetic reasons, and her surname changed to "Chavez" (later given to Maria Chavez, captain of Elisa's precinct), then "Bluestone" (given to Matt Bluestone, Elisa's partner) and then "Maza". [37]
Elisa and her earlier incarnations also had a number of different professions, including schoolteacher, firefighter, museum curator, inventor, and archaeologist. For a while she was the former partner of Xavier (the early incarnation of David Xanatos), a mother, and a descendant of the Scottish Princess who became Princess Katharine. [38]
Salli, the name Elisa used to go undercover in Brod's gang is an in-joke; Elisa was voiced by Salli Richardson.
