Real World Background
Following the assassination of his predecessor, William McKinley, Roosevelt was immediately sworn in. It was during his administration that the Executive Mansion would be formally renamed 'The White House'. During his presidency, he prioritized conservationism and other progressive policies. His foreign policy focused largely in Central and South America, where he participated and orchestrated the events that led to the creation of the Panama Canal.
During Roosevelt's time in New York City, he unsuccessfully ran for Mayor in 1886 and later served as President on the New York Police Department's Board of Commissioners from 1895-1897.
