Real World Background
While Flagstaff University is fictional, the city of Flagstaff does have schools for undergraduate and graduate learning. The most well-known is Northern Arizona University, founded in 1899. As a public research university, it is affiliated with the local Lowell Observatory, which discovered the dwarf planet Pluto in 1930. There is also Coconino Community College, founded in 1991.
