The Charles Bridge

Charles Bridge (Karlův Most in Czech) is a famous bridge in Prague that crosses the Vltava river.

In 1996, it was not only the site where gangster Tomas Brod was briefly cornered by authorities, but it was also where Goliath, Elisa, Angela, and Bronx docked during one of their stops on their World Tour. Angela and Bronx briefly waited atop the Old Town Bridge Tower while Goliath looked for Halcyon Renard and Elisa tried to figure out where Avalon had sent them. ("Golem")

Real World Background

It was named after the Holy Roman Emperor, Charles IV (1355-1378), who, according to legend, laid the first stone when construction began in 1357. Originally known as the Stone Bridge (Kamenný Most), construction was completed in 1402. An arch bridge, its span is sixteen stone arches which are shielded by ice guards. The first statue was erected at the street level in 1683 and culminated in thirty statues by 1714. The statues, however, have been regularly replaced by replicas since 1965, with the originals relocated to the National Museum in Prague. The bridge is flanked by three bridge towers (two on one side and the Old Town Bridge Tower on the other).

In contrast to its portrayal in the series, the bridge has been accessible only for pedestrians since the end of the 1970s.
