601 Amsterdam Avenue
601 Amsterdam Avenue is the Manhattan home of Shahpar Bamdad.
History
Originally owned outright by the unseen Mr. Huxley, his negligence as landlord led to the events that caused not only the explosion in apartment 4C, but also the injury and subsequent death of his tenant, Calvin Fletcher. The explosion was ruled an accident, but days later, Huxley disappeared, vanishing without a trace. The police were called, and Elisa Maza was given her first case as a detective. Despite her best efforts, the missing person case remained unsolved.
Nine months later, the building was now held in a trust and Huxley returned returned not as the building's landlord, but as its superintendent, and known to the tenants only by his first name, Clarence. He began an earnest effort to renovate the building for its new owners.
Years later, Broadway's curiosity led to the realization that 601 Amsterdam Avenue's former landlord and current super were one and the same, and Huxley's own revelation to his former tenants that they, in fact, were now the owners of the building. ("Stone Cold Case")
Characteristics
The building has two apartments situated at each of its four stories, with the exception of the fourth floor, which has a third unit that is described as "more like a closet".
601 Amsterdam Avenue was in a persistent state of disrepair, with pipes that leaked, wiring that was faulty, in bad need of a repainting, and the trash was piling up. In the years since Huxley positioned himself as the building's superintendent, every occupied unit has since been renovated, although 4C still smells of smoke.
No longer landlord, Huxley intends for 1A, once the biggest apartment, to become a common area for each of the tenants.
