Disney's Gargoyles Cinestory was going to be an adaptation of the five-part "Awakening" using screen captures from the original animation. [1] It was announced to be released by Joe Books Ltd. on March 30th, 2016; then it was rescheduled for May 4th, 2016; July 12th, 2016; May 17th, 2017; and September 27, 2017 before it was finally revealed that the cinestory was quietly cancelled.[2]

Greg Weisman had mixed feelings on its cancellation. He did a lot of unpaid work on it that turned out to be for nothing; but he didn't think it was a great idea in the first place, and wasn't sure how many people, even hardcore fans, would want it. [3]

The cover art was drawn by Christopher Jones and colored by Robby Bevard.

One thousand years ago, superstition and the sword ruled. It was a time of darkness. It was a world of fear. It was the age of gargoyles. Stone by day, warriors by night, the gargoyles were betrayed by the humans they had sworn to protect and were frozen in stone for a thousand years. Now, in Manhattan, the spell is broken, and they live again. They are defenders of the night. They are Gargoyles! Forward by series creator Greg Weisman. [4]
