Arizona is a state in the southwestern United States of America, admitted into the union in 1912.
Arizona is the home of the Hopi people. Carlos Maza lived there, and it was the birthplace of Peter Maza. As of 1996, Beth Maza also attends school there, in Flagstaff. ("Cloud Fathers")
Real World Background
Arizona was the last state to be admitted in the contiguous United States. The state's capital, Phoenix, is named after the mythical fire bird, a subtle acknowledgement to rebuilding on the site of where the indigenous Hohokam once lived. [1]
