Chrysler Building
The Chrysler Building is one of New York City's leading landmarks and, as of 1997, the fifth tallest building building in Manhattan (after the Eyrie Building, the twin towers of the World Trade Center, and the Empire State Building).
History

Real World Background
Designed by William Van Alen, the first true skyscraper began construction on January 21, 1929 and finished a little more than a year later on May 27, 1930. Upon completion, the Chrysler Building was not only the tallest building in the world but the world's tallest structure, taking the title from the Eiffel Tower. Competition for the title of "world's tallest" was so intense, the spire was installed in secret. [1] It held the title for the next eleven months, when it was surpassed by the Empire State Building.
As of 2025, it is the thirteenth tallest building in New York.
