Donalbain was the second known son of King Duncan, and the younger brother of King Malcolm Canmore.
History
Following Macbeth's ascension to the throne of Scotland in 1040, Donalbain was taken to Ireland for his own safety. [1] While there, he learned to appreciate gargoyles due to his experiences with the Irish Clans. He returned to Scotland sometime after his brother deposed Macbeth. ("Fools Rush In...")
By 1093, he promised to watch over Queen Margaret's "brood" of princes during their journey to England. It was in Northumbria that he participated in the sacking of Alnwick, though he did not revel in it as much as some of his nephews. When the King instructed the various princes to slaughter the Northumbria Clan, Prince Donalbain unsuccessfully made a feeble effort to dissuade his brother from the wanton violence.
