Emma of Normandy was the Queen of England. She was the daughter of Duke Richard the Fearless of Normandy, and therefore Princess Elena's sister, and Princess Katharine's aunt. [1] She was also the mother of Edward the Confessor through her first husband, Aethelred the Unready. [2] In 1017, Emma married England's reigning monarch, King Canute of Denmark. [3] Together they had a son, Hardicanute. [4]
In 1042, she was locked up in a nunnery by Edward the Confessor once he assumed the throne. [5]
