Morgan Morgan

Morgan Morgan is a police officer in the NYPD, and a current member of the Gargoyle Taskforce. He is a close friend of Elisa Maza.

History

Morgan undercover in 1995.
Morgan dressed as Sherlock Holmes in 1996.
At Goliath's Hearing in 1997.

Morgan Morgan was born in 1959. [1]

On the night that the gargoyles first awoke in New York City, Morgan was one of the police officers on the ground who witnessed the disturbance when the commandos "invaded" the Eyrie Building. It was here that he first met Elisa, when she also arrived on the scene. ("Awakening: Part One")

Later that month, Morgan was transferred to the 23rd precinct, where Elisa was stationed. [2] Since then, he sighted the gargoyles on various occasions along with his partner, Phil Travanti. During this time, Morgan's pleasant demeanor has been a support for Elisa. He lent an ear when Elisa expressed her exhaustion from all the "monsters", reminding her why she took up the badge. Their conversations have also benefited the Manhattan Clan, such as when he shared with Elisa the interaction he had with Guardian, who was searching for Goliath. ("Temptation", "High Noon", "Avalon" Part One)

In 1996, after the existence of the gargoyles was revealed to the public, Officers Morgan and Travanti joined Matt Bluestone's Gargoyle Taskforce. On Halloween, Morgan asked Elisa out on a date. She initially refused, but later changed her mind and Morgan accompanied her to David Xanatos's masque party at the Eyrie Building dressed as Sherlock Holmes. He realized that Elisa still wasn't ready for a relationship when she introduced him to "G" (Goliath), whom Morgan believed to be a human in a "beyond-amazing" gargoyle costume. He told Elisa that he was leaving the party, and although she tried to apologize to him he said no apology was necessary, since he already knew that he was her "rebound guy". ("Invitation Only", "Masque", "Bash")

In 1997, Morgan reminded Matt Bluestone that Elisa's assistance in apprehending a group of ATM bandits while off the clock was against regulations. ("A Little Crazy")

Morgan's police badge number is 91213. ("Avalon" Part One)

Characteristics

Morgan in the locker room.

Morgan is a dedicated police officer and perceptive to what's going on around him. He was often good at picking up on what was troubling Elisa at any given moment and offering advice she's needed (even if he didn't understand the mitigating circumstances). When he asked her out for a date on Halloween, he quickly understood that "G" was an ex she wasn't yet over, and stepped aside.

Due to his gift of perception, it was appropriate that he dressed up as Sherlock Holmes for Halloween. It is currently unknown if he figured out who "G" actually was prior to Elisa taking the stand at Goliath's Hearing.

Production Background

Voice Actor: Keith David

Morgan was named after Morgan Lord Morgan III, one of Greg Weisman's classmates in high school. [3]

"Morgan" was also one of the names, considered during the series' early comedy development, for the character that eventually became Elisa Maza. The name was based on Julia Morgan, an architect. [4]

Morgan was originally to appear in "Deadly Force" helping Chavez to arrest Tony Dracon. His role was taken by Matt Bluestone to set up for his proper introduction in "The Edge". [5]

Keith David's reading of Morgan prompted interest in Greg Weisman to explore the officer's relationship with Elisa.[6]
